passionflower icecream and hontou pancakes

mmm i love a day of just roaming around the city eating whatever you wish (also, i love having random days off work. i hated my previous 9-5 mon-fri job)
first off: Passionflower icecream! Passionflower is the icecream chain which caters to asian tastes with flavours like durian, black sesame and sticky rice to the more normalish chocolate, mango and pink grapefruit. when we walked in the entrance i immediately got suckered into trying the cookies and cream cheesecake becos LOOK its sooo pretty…

unfortunately it was lukewarm which made me question if it had even been refrigerated over night… and it was a bit too dense for my liking so i ordered 2 scoops of sticky rice and pink grapefruit in a waffle basket. (btw i dont actually like the waffle basket but its the same price as in a glass and i reallllli hate the sound/feeling when you scrape a metal spoon against glass). noods got the hm. uh cant quite remember… but it was raspberry and something mousse? texture was odd like it hadnt been refrigerated haha

later on we were wandering down sussex st and found this place:

think it was called hontou pancakes and its right next door to ippon sushi. looks sooo pretty too! after having tried the beard papas puffs i was curious to see if the custard in these ‘pancakes’ tasted anything similar. they were 3 for $5 and we chose 2 custard and 1 chocolate.

BITES. hmm. i liked the way it felt when i was holding it, it felt like a mini waffle but smooth. unfortunately i didnt like it. at all. surprisingly noods liked it. alot. and scoffed the rest!

  1. after 2 1/2yrs of you telling me about passionflower, i still havent been there…one day. and I’m surprised you didnt get the cheese flavoured pancake.

  2. Sounds like a disappointment? I had one myself today but it`s my own cooking (even though it was a low price food brand, which probably is one reason) so I won`t complain to much about my not so tasty tortellini, but it wasn`t exactly italian cuisine ;-)

  3. I used to hate doing shift work. But having a day off when everyone else was working was kinda cool.

I’m not that big on the Hontou pancakes either. Kinda like dense heavy pikelets.

  5. ooh. i like your sticky rice – pink grapefruit combo. i’ve had both flavours before, but separately. too bad about the obanyaki. i would’ve scoffed your lot too. :) the chocolate could be more chocolatey though.

  7. These are the kickass pancakes! Always buy every week for the delicious taste of white chedder cheese… MmmMMmmm… in fact i’m eating one right now. Don’t buy the choc or Custard cos they’ll make you sick with the texture of rice pudding. And as a bonus, theres a sexy chick working there! MmmmMMmmm…
