Lighthouse Restaurant (68-80 George St, Parramatta) is one of the better formal style restaurants in the area with a bar style area downstairs and the restaurant a short flight of stairs upwards
However with multiple return visits me and noods have come to the conclusion that many of their accompanying sauces are either neon green or a really artificial bright orange. Their Prix Fixe Menu is 2 courses for $36 and 3 courses for $39. The mains are usually close to hopeless but the entrees and desserts are almost always excellent (because they never seem to change bwahaha)
Smoked Tasmanian salmon with avocado, straw mushrooms and celery apple dressing
The celery apple dressing was interesting, providing a nice sweet crunch with the salmon. Avocado not so good/fresh
Chicken, asparagus and artichoke in puff pastry with Red Bell sauce
noods was worried the puff pastry would be like curry puff style but was happy to see that it was a vol au vant. oh wait maybe it was me that was happy mmm i love pastry…
Cornfed chicken kiev breast filled with fresh herbs and panfried in golden bread crumbs
can you people tell the difference between cornfed chicken and ‘other’ chicken? i can taste the difference with beef but not chicken… man this dish was overloaded on salt and the sauce tasted like they were trying to get it to brown too fast and slightly burnt it… but mmm breadcrumbs…
Freshwater fish fillet grilled with almond flakes and served with seafood emulsion
seriously ‘seafood emulsion’? i hate the word emulsion it makes me think of slimey mush… which is what the fish turned out like… it was soft all right. soft as MUSH!
Homemade tiramisu cake with coffee liqueur
fake cream. ugh. they never used to have fake cream. dude i think im allergic to fake cream. it makes me feel woozy. and not enough cake to cream ratio
Sticky date pudding with vanilla bean ice cream and butterscotch sauce
mmm warm pudding mmm butterscotch is the best sauce in the world (followed by cheese sauce mmm)
Back to home
Looks sooo good – esp the dessert… that’s where we went for your 21st right? :) Lene
— Lene Sep 8, 09:54 PM #You know I think I remember you posting that another pic of the same salmon dish before quite a while a go. Cos I was like ‘celery apple’? You’re right they mustnt change, at all.
— amie Sep 9, 12:40 AM #lene: yeah looks good but not taste good.. i barely remember food from 21st haha except for me cake… mmm cake
— chocolatesuze Sep 12, 06:28 PM #amie: yeah i dun like restaurants whose menus dont change… i mean isnt that the fun of it all to experiment and see what customers like?
