ROAD TRIP!!! i was asked along for a lil road trip to canberra for a reconassaince mission to Pancake Parlour (cnr East Row and Alinga Street, Civic, Canberra)

3 hours of this:

meant road trip games like i spy and random discussions like amishs’ 4 trees a year, lees fishing stories and peters random fone calls

me and lee with vera and nelson in the background. lees classic quotes: “this one time we lost a helicopter out in the sea…”
“i would so live right THERE surrounded by mountains so i could see the rain coming”
“that is one fine looking hill. lemme take a foto of it”
“eat the damn candy woman!”

looking good so far… on to the food!

me food. chicken breast with buckwheat pancake switching hollandaise sauce to mushroom sauce (no way do i eat hollandaise unless i make it myself). hmm [chews] dry [chews some more] tasteless. ergh buckwheat tastes funny. [looks at salad] they made it look like theres heaps of salad but theyve just chopped it all up booo why does my plate look half empty (or is it half full)

crumbed fish fillet. ankur declared his fishy uncooked and had to heap a truckload of tartare sauce on to it to even taste halfway decent. lee takes one look at his buckwheat pancake and goes “i aint eating that shit”

scotch fillet steak. peter takes one stab at his steak and turns to amish and asks “is your steak medium rare, medium well or both?” haha damn thing was tasteless, dry and stringy

heh the best thing we ate was a side order of deluxe fries which had bacon bits and melty cheese mmm

hoping dessert was going to be an improvement me and peter ordered the chocolate cherry jubilee… dude onli one pancake??? [chomp] ergh uber dry pancake mix… cheap cream… ooh but i liked the sauce and the sour cherries.

as soon as lee was done with his fish he goes “im gonna have me a banana split BABY!” and lookit! preeetty [before the drowning of fudge sauce)

[after the drowning]

IT. 2 buttermilk pancakes with banana and walnuts. we were charged extra for the bananas. BOO HISS.

the rest of the pics are from nelsons table so i dont realli know what it tastes like. except for the jewish blintz (no foto) which was a real puzzler with my tastebuds because they couldnt believe i would let them taste anything so bad…

traditional blueberry pancakes.

ooh no idea what this was but the strawberries had been killed/cooked in a not so tasty sugar syrup

jamaican banana. again charged extra for the bananas. and dont you love the maple syrup in plastic disposable containers…

da crew. it was a great experience comparing our food with theirs so thanks to nelson for inviting me!

  1. I think each pancake parlour is different – my local always brings overflowing plates, and do a great breakfast menu with home-made, traditional hash browns (not those MickyDees potato cakes!). If you ever go back, try the hot ball – bring that fudge baby!
