new years eve 2006

3 January 2007, 18:44

last new years eve me and noods went to Jordons for dinner and fireworks and while the view was fantastic, bits of fireworks randomly landed on our food because we were sitting outside and also it was a little strange when people would walk past our table and go hey can i have a prawn… so this year we went to Nicks Seafood (The Promenade – Cockle Bay Wharf next to IMAX)

we had the most fantastic waiter. well, most friendliest. certainly a giant improvement over the service from Rockpool. sure his english wasnt so good but he more than made up for it by running to everyones tables whenever he saw someone about to pour their wine, cleared away our plates carefully and with a smile and MADE us take this foto with our (free) fluffy tiara and shiny hat hehe

bread. mmm bread. too bad butter came in packets…

Sydney Rock Oysters, Smoked Salmon Roulade, King Prawn and Tomato Skewers. i thought the oysters were only okay Jordons is definitely king when it comes to huge plump oysters but the smoked salmon was fantastic and yes i shoved the whole thing into my mouth. and the prawns. dya see the prawns? noods takes one look at them and goes oooh yummy takes HALF A BITE out of one and 2 hours later hes super puffy (hes allergic) lol its funny now but not so funny when driving hime worrying he was going to stop breathing grrr

Seafood Ceviche- Marinated Scallops, Prawns and Salmon with Ratatouille Salad. the scallop bits were fantastic! so fresh but too bad there was onli like 2 pieces of that and the salmon because it was realli tasty! the tart was shortcrust pastry which im not a big fan of but i guess if they used puff it wouldnt have held the veges well

Grilled Morton Bay Bugs. ladies and gentleman we have a winner! this was by far the best bugs i have ever eaten oooh sooo soooft and plenty of meaty flesh

Grilled Salmon with Parsnip Mash and Pepperonata. kind of ugly foto but yes it was the parsnip mash that intrigued me when i read it on the menu and no the pepperonata is not peppery more tomatoey and capsicumy. salmon was a tad on the dry side but still tasty

Oven Roasted Barramundi Fillet with Salmon Potato Cake, Asparagus and Lemon Butter. barra was okay but the salmon potato cake was quite weird in not a good way… and i think we were distracted from our mains becos we were watching this:

yeh my camera dont like taking fotos of fireworks but they were soooo preetty! we had a full view and it was most excellent

Fresh Fig and Almond Tart with Sauce Anglaise. the tart case and the fig were good but i dont like almond paste…

Marinated Fresh Strawberies with Chocolate Mousse. rich. very very rich hehe

and a nice normal shot sans tiara and hat hehe happy new year!
