today was meant to be my last day at work before i go away on holidays. instead it was my last day ever at working at pancakes. i have loved working there, enjoyed coming to work and learning how to actually cook since ive had absolutely no experience in the kitchen. ive made some wonderful friends whom i can trust, ive learnt how to work as a team especially during the lunch rush and yet one floor manager thinks im too slow. she watches me as i chop vegetables she watches me as i wash dishes she watches me as i man the grill she watches me and always points out my mistakes never to forgive never to forget “how long have you been working here?” she always asks “and you still dont know how to prep?” i dont cook at home, ive never worked in a kitchen before and you expect me to know all the recipes??? she marched up to me today saying “youre leaving for a month? are you coming back? dont play games with me now ive been hearing that you want to quit but then other people say you want to work part time?” off guard i reply “when i come back i would like to be part time but because of my business i dont know my availability and so i may have to quit.” her response? “even if you do come back i dont think we can keep you if you are only part time.” so i left. my shift ended at 4pm today but it wasnt busy so i said my goodbyes to everyone and i walked out.

I have to confess, I often sound like that floor manager. But that wasn’t always the case. And I’m sure it’s the same with her. I do hope that you remember your last day at work, no matter how much it pisses you off. Because once you bear all the responsibility, as you would with your new business, it is very easy to overlook a person’s feelings in favor of productivity.
