yes i realise mothers day was a while ago… but happy mothers day mum and all the mothers out there!!! we went to Istana Restaurant (Shop 15a, 230-238 Pennant Hills Rd Thornleigh).

cheesies

sang choi bow aw man this was so messy because im so unco but it was one of the tastier versions ive had. we usually steer clear of this because its kinda classified for the gwai lohs but they were very generous with the huge mound of tender juicy morsels of meat

ahhh the crab. the crab is usually one of the first dishes out because its the STAR of the meal and because you dont want to get full on other stuff before eating the $$$ but delicious crab

pipis in XO sauce noods loves this i think more for the sauce than the pipis… and ive finally found out a food compulsion of his he cant eat pipis if theyre free floating they have to be in the shell or he cant eat them bwhahaha

malaysian king prawns mmm salty but very fresh prawns

theres tofu hidden under all them vegetables. istana makes it themselves and its so meltingly soft and tasty

chicken 2 ways eh its ok

hehe fried icecream drowned in caramel sauce

banana fritters with icecream. for some reason whenever i tell people about this dessert they cant comprehend the frying of a banana accompanied with icecream
Back to home
Question from a non-Asian and non-Aussie: what are gwai lohs?

— chocolatesuze May 20, 09:21 PM #Australia is great…I’m getting my post grad in Gastronomy at Uni Adelaide, but I’m a city girl, so its a bit hard adjusting to the Adelaide way of life:) But I do love all the local food producers and wineries! What city are you living in or near?
