one of the newest chocolate shops to hit Sydney is Boon (251 Victoria St, Darlinghurst) and hey there is no such thing as too many chocolate stores! opened in november last year, this was my very first visit to the brother and sister run boutique chocolate salon. Alex and Fanny Chan invited helen and I to come and have a gander at their store and were super generous to give us a lil taste test of their fabulous chocolates

step forward my pretties and gaze into the glass counter filled with gorgeous squares of colourful chocolates! they were a little low on chocolates as we had come the day after valentines day and their supply got wiped out

the super pretty ‘Tres Corazones’, Spanish for three hearts is a blend of dark chocolate crimson hearts, filled with Moet Chandon Champagne. each heart symbolises “La vida, mi Corazon, tu alma” a Spanish quote meaning “Life, my heart, your soul.”

last of the chocolate bags! ah how i wanted to hold it!

fabulous packaging for your precioussss

balsamico- strawberry milk chocolate ganache accented with balsamic vinegar

mira- white chocolate ganache made with mountain pepper berries and strawberry

marakesh- dark chocolate ganache infused with fresh mint leaves

lien- white chocolate ganache infused with anise and vanilla beans

a sneak peek at the hypnotising chocolate wheel. it spins chocolate! round and round!

making our way up the stairs to the terrace lounge where the walls are a deep browny-purple, the stools look like chess pieces and there are soft squishy cushions on the comfy sofa chairs

we begin with the chocolate teaser plate ($7.50 for a choice of 5 chocolates) and managed to score an extra choc because helen had wanted to try the chili chocolate and which she later declares “it’s like a party in my mouth!” lol my favourite was the el Corazon, the super shiny red valentines heart that is white chocolate filled with rose and champagne and the balsamico was freaking awesome!

alex has awesome cutting skills! each chocolate was cut in half so helen and i could share the experience in the chocolate journey =P

foodbloggers shalt not fight! heh heh helen is pixellated to remain anonymous

belgian waffle with fresh strawberries, almonds, vanilla bean icecream and Boon chocolate sauce ($14.50)

food porn shot of chocolate sauce being poured over waffle

nomnom awesomeness on a plate

hot chocolate with a Boon praline (mine was Jasmin- dark chocolate ganache infused with jasmine tea) and chocolate mousse ($7.50)

gratuitous chocolatesuze shot!

our table of goodies! yeah we couldnt wait long enough to take a photo that we started drinking our hot chocolates haha noods was sitting there watching us with a “oh man foodbloggers” look

3 hours later: carnage! side note, while helen and i were deep in thought and trading thoughts about chocolate noods left saying he’d go and move the car INSTEAD he went and ate a bacon and egg roll from the cafe down the road…

the fabulous fanny and alex! thanks so much dudes! we had a lovely time and will definitely be back!

— FFichiban Feb 18, 07:36 PM #Wow those chocolates are amongst the prettiest I’ve seen in Sydney! Are there a lot of seats in there?

and gasp at the chocolate cutting skills! did they use a wire like the way cheese cutters work? i always end up smooshing my chocolates :(
— shez Feb 18, 09:50 PM #that was a good bacon and egg roll… hit the spot perfectly after waiting around for 3hrs…

— Fiona Feb 18, 10:12 PM #Noods went to get a bacon and egg roll…and didn’t bring any back for you guys?? How rude! You should make him take you back to Boon to make up for it! haha
— SoRMuiJAi Feb 19, 12:23 AM #Ahh the best Sunday breakfast I’ve had for a long time :)
— Helen Feb 19, 02:35 AM #I must say, my favourite so far are the Pash, and the Mira – I didn’t realise those pretty hearts were for sale T____T
— Chris Feb 19, 09:35 AM #I have one question?
— Christina Feb 19, 12:34 PM #How do you remain so thin when you eat at all these places,I’d be huge if I did that.
awesome photos!! and how wonderful to be invited to sample all that loveliness at no costs. let’s swap jobs please! x
— shermy Feb 19, 11:57 PM #OMG, this place is a must-visit. Do you think we’ll get freebies if we say ‘Suze and Helen sent us’?
— BELLE Feb 20, 01:01 PM #For those who only want freebies, then i pity the businesses that have to attract you. In this current economic times, supporting those whose food you enjoy is more important than scoring a freebie.. imagine if you are on the other side of the counter. I hope people like you don’t come to my business, not that what I do is edible!!!
— June Feb 22, 12:14 PM #Some really nice shots. Must have been a great experience :)
— Simon Feb 22, 11:23 PM #lorraine: lol but dude they emailed and invited us to come which is prolly why we got some samples
— chocolatesuze Feb 23, 12:17 AM #ffichiban: mmm the waffles were indeed awesome!
karen: hmm there was a long bench that could fit maybe 8 ppl, plus about 6 small tables that could fit 3 chairs each?
shez: hehe skillz huh! the chocolates were awesome you should totally visit!
noods: lol still cant belive you went and got one haha
fiona: i know its so pretty hey! too pretty to eat i reckon!
sormuijai: hahaha yeah but i think the chocolates topped his bacon and egg roll =P
helen: totally! breakfast of champions!
chris: i loved the pash! and the isabella! mmm
christina: haha um good metabolism? or maybe worms… LOL
shermy: thanks dude! ah not quite a job but still very fun!
belle: haha im not sure dude!
june: ah yes but i was invited to come and taste their chocolates for a review. i think the others were joking? we dont normally expect free stuff.
simon: thanks it was lovely!
I totally agree with June. As a long time food blog reader I’m actually quite appalled by certain person’s reaction to not receiving a freebie. Reading blogs, I’ve noticed that many blogs have been invited to restaurant and media launches, does that not in itself account for a freebie? Freebies are meant as a gift of appreciation, not something that all “food bloggers” should come to expect just because they’re under the banner of a food blogger, to expect otherwise is outrageous and selfish. No business should feel obligated to give freebies considering the fact that there are rents, wages and bills waiting to be paid. I certainly hope for food bloggers reputation that people were joking.
— Sienna Feb 25, 10:12 AM #I agree with June and Sienna.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. A freebie from a business is a bonus. Just as a positive write-up in a blog is a bonus to a business.
You may as well advertise yourself as a ‘pay per blog’ blogger if you are going to expect freebies.
Food bloggers need to aspire to the same levels of professional integrity as paid journalists to be similarly respected and of influence.
