yeah i dunno why my blog has been down all day damn you unlimited space (my server)!!! and gah it ate my post! i deliberately stayed up to write that last night! grr hiss! btw have you guys been watching masterchef? it’s on every day this week 7pm-8pm on channel 10. ive started a chat room but atm it’s sadly limited to only 5 ppl in the room unless i pay to upgrade my subscription hmm anyone know a free live chat website? that can be personalised with own url? email me!
so anyways i was craving hot chips the other day so went to the local corner shop (is it just me or are the corner shops a dying breed?) and lo and behold i saw a sign advertising deep fried mars bars!
mmm batter coated mars bar and then deepfried! the nougaty innards were melty and so so tasty =P cholesterol? what cholesterol?
the batter got a bit much towards the end so i pulled it off and just ate the mars bar innards lol

heh yeah super late but i wanted to post this pic of me and the easter bunny. i had to wait and battle the hordes of children who were ignoring the happy waves of mr bunny and instead were pawing at the girl accompanying mr bunny with a basket of chocolate eggs.
my new buys from diva- donut and cupcake earrings and a gingerbread man necklace. my food related jewellery is fast outnumbering my ‘normal’ jewellery
gingerbread babies! found these in coles for the bargain price of $3.15 and they were like mini gingerbread men they were!
been craving yoghurt since the easter show and bough a 6pack of yoplait but wait look at the flavours! apple tart, lemon meringue, vanilla cheesecake!
bodega tapas bar, (216 Commonwealth St, Surry Hills). plates of prettily presented bite sized foods pleases me greatly
plates of prettily presented bite sized foods pleases me greatly so i was super excited when the lovely Ellie from Kitchen Wench from melbourne asked on twitter (hey follow me on twitter here) if any of the syd foodbloggers were available for a meetup and a flurry of msgs later, Helen, Reem and i were making our way into tapas hotspot of the month Bodega (216 Commonwealth St, Surry Hills)
thick slices of fluffy bread appears sitting on a nifty tray which also holds a small well of olive oil
the Jamon serrano ($12) arrives next and helen and i share a look that says omg look at the pretty pig shavings! the soft pink (heh you could say baby pink) slices were gorgeously soft melt in the mouth morsels and ah how i wished i could order a plate of this all to myself! next time my pretties…
Mushrooms in garlic ($12). midway thru discussing the menu we pause and start smelling the awesomeness that is garlic mushrooms from the table next to us. it is immediately added to our list and soon we are gleefully smearing cloves of garlic onto our bread topped with thick slabs of juicy meaty mushrooms
Argentinian-style beef empanadas with salsa criolla ($13.50 for 4). the empanadas arrive hot and amid squeals of ‘oh baby look at how fat they are’ heh the pastry was golden and deliciously flaky
Sashimi kingfish on garlic toast with cuttlefish ceviche and mojama ($16) the ‘fish fingers’ have come highly recommended and it does not disappoint. thick slices of grilled bread comes piled high with thin slices of kingfish and diced cuttlefish and a whole crapload of onion. there was much onion on my slice. a little too much. um
Bodega chorizo with sofrito paste ($12). the chorizo arrives last in what looks like a purpose built platter and ellie is quick to arrange the first slice to make it more photogenic. it is meaty and i soon find that i am too weak to handle even mild chilli sauce. i do not honour my malaysian heritage and fail in eating chilli
but not to worry for it is dessert time! ellie had asked if we were sharing desserts and as i look up in horror i meet reems equal expression of horror before we blurt out that we needed our own desserts because we had already seen the dessert menu on the website heh and so ellie, helen and i order the Banana split with cream flan, dulce de leche ice cream, ginger biscuit and banana ($14). the banana marshmallow is so completely mindblowing with its charcoaly crispy edge and gooey melty innards! altho the cream flan just didnt quite do it for me, being a little too firm but a scoop of sweet dulce de leche ice cream and all was right in the world
Chocolate terrine with fresh fig, cava jelly and yoghurt ice cream ($14). reem was all set to order the banana split when the waiter convinced her to give this dessert a try and boy was she happy about it! figs and chocolate is such an awesome combination and i think we all suffered from dessert envy heh

mario mushroom rainbow cake. a cake shaped like the mario mushroom but with rainbow innards! psychedelic baby!
It was FFichiban’s birthday a while back and I was determined to make him a mario mushroom cake but with the added bonus of rainbow innards!
Woohoo rainbow innards! This is ffichibans pic cos I was unable to chop inside and sneak a peek at the cakes innards but woo swirls! I was inspired by the awesome omnomicon
Want a super basic guide? Make your cake batter. Divide into 4 bowls or however many colours you want
Heh lurid! I used food colouring gels for the red, blue and green. Yellow was a bit runny becos I didn’t have yellow gel and used normal food colouring liquid.
Now dollop your colours! It works much better in a normal circle cake tin but I like making life difficult for me and used a cupcake shaped pan which I turned into mushroom later. He turned out wonky cos the tin sloped a bit and the colours ran
While your cake is baking take a pretty photo of the colourful spoons and bowls
I had some batter left over and made a coupla cupcakes too
Heh heh he’s a bit ugly after I tipped him outta the tin and got a little broken in the middle but not to worry I’ll be covering him in delicious icing!
(ffichiban’s image) hee slices of swirlys!
(ffichiban’s image) and a very sexy shot of my swirly cupcakes! Topped with peanut butter and chocolate buttercream mmm hope you like the cakeage dude!
