nuff me

6 April 2009, 01:56

aww i’ve finally been replaced on nuffnangs blogger of the month hehe somehow i managed to be up there for 2months in a row tho so i cant complain anywhos decided to copy and paste what i wrote cos i am so freaking tired after running around buying whitegoods for the house and oh the choices! anywhos this is for posterity’s sake =P

My blog Chocolatesuze is about the random foods I eat, in particular quirky stuff like the 32cm soft serve icecream or the fiance’s attempt at the 2kg ramen challenge. There is the occasional recipe and sometimes a restaurant review. I dont pretend to be a writer or a photographer I just want to share with the world my experiences and things that make me laugh. Food doesn’t have to be expensive or served in some posh restaurant for it to be delicious, some of the best meals i’ve ever eaten were at tiny hole in the wall places, food from street vendors in Malaysia and of course my mums home cooking- assam laksa, deep fried soft shell crab and chilli scampi!

I started my blog about 8 years ago when I was looking for a distraction from the HSC. Sadly, my posts from those early years were eaten when my server died on me. I am a firm believer in seeing where life takes you and going with the flow. I have a degree in nutrition and while I don’t exactly eat healthily I can tell you WHY the food I’m eating is not healthy. I have a weakness for cheeseburgers, chocolate cake and macarons.

Some of my happiest memories are from the jobs I’ve had since high school- working in a popcorn store, sandwich store, cake factory, and a pancake restaurant not because i liked working but because of all the freebies i scored. Can you imagine 5kg worth of caramel popcorn? Or a 6 foot long sub? Two years ago I started a biscuit company with the Mothership called The Biscuit Tree. I had wanted to call the company Son of a Biscuit but didn’t think that would go over well when I answered phone calls.

The number of aussie food blogs are increasing and I say the more the merrier! We have nowhere near the awareness of blogs than in the US so it’s great that Nuffnang is able to help us out with strengthening our online presence.

  1. I’m not surprised that despite having a nutrition background, that it doesn’t stop you from eating the bad stuff, in the same way that doctors know the effects of alcoholism and smoking and still partake in this activities.

Do you still have a good nutrition fairy that tries to steer you away from bad foods or has she been knocked off your shoulder by the bad one a long time ago? :)

  5. You are one of my favourite foodbloggers your posts are entertaining and funny because you don’t take yourself too seriously. If only you posted more often!

  8. I LOVE Son of a Biscuit! Helen is right, you will have to make a special range of biscuits under that name (maybe something under the table just for food bloggers? ;)! 8 years, you must be the grandmother of all Aussie food bloggers!

  9. Only if you kept that name, would of been classic.

Anyway it’s good I can share with you my love for cheeseburgers!

grace: yup they produced the sliced cakes for airlines! i started there as work experience student but then stayed on and became the quality assurance manager ahh good times… tho not really cos i nearly had a nervous breakdown and ended up quitting pretending i had decided to continue another degree…

  12. haha ‘Quality assurance manager’, what does THAT mean! Sounds like it involves a lot of cake taste testing hahaha mmm

though they must have worked you hard with the taste testing to make you run away :/ but haha I went to a vet for work experience = cat pee and blood.. When I think of cake factory ah haha I totally chose the wrong place

    Grace    Apr 7, 12:49 PM    #

  13. grace: heh i was supposed to take temperature readings of the cakes before and after they got quick chilled, make sure i make and know the code for each batch in case of a recall, liase with ppl buying the cakes and organising the chefs, stocktake… ergh not much fun esp when i was forced to work 6days a week and only get paid 5! i did get some cakes tho so that was quite good heh
