No sooner did i write on twitter: “i swear i remember reading about a place in sydney pay $1 press a button in a room and try some wine. was it a dream or is this place real?” and i was immediately flooded with replies of “Wine Odyssey! But it’s not $1 it’s $2!” Hmm push a button and try some wine without worrying about looking like a fool when ordering the wine? I’m totally in! And so one sunny afternoon, we arrive at Wine Odyssey Australia (39-43 Argyle St, The Rocks, Corner of Argyle & Harrington St) with the boy’s rellies from malaysia in tow.

Rock up to the counter of the Wine Journey Room at the Wine Odyssey and there’s an awesome cheerful dude who is more than happy to guide you in which wines to drink or you can be left alone to taste.

The front room is filled with bottle upon bottle of Australian wines with tasting notes under each bottle. Apparently the wine stays fresh through a state-of-the-art Italian Enomatic Wine Preservation and Pouring System. Yup awesome.

We are given a wine odyssey card which can be loaded with an amount or can be used like a credit card and paid for at the end. Yeah i forgot to take a pic of the card but here’s a pic of the card slot…

After inserting the card, place glass under the spout and press the magical buttons for either a tasting sample (25ml), half glass (75ml) or whole glass (150ml). Tasting samples start at $2 with the most expensive being $38 for the Grange. We didn’t try it.

There were some gorgeous rooms where you can take your glass of wine to savour and i think there was a restaurant upstairs (but uh we ate at lowenbrau instead heh)

Loved the outdoor area with the leaf lights and cane chair seating

Last pic of the awesome decorations in the rooms

More wines

And some delicious whites and rose!

Mmm

Oh hellooo…
Back to home
Like wine in a vending machine! Hope his rellies enjoyed it, and ah yes, the power of twitter!

— Trisha Sep 2, 07:38 AM #Ohhh was the $2 wine decent? I’ve walked past so many times but have been too scared to head in because oh! What on earth would I do with $10 and a glass?! (or, more to the point, what wouldn’t I do?)
