There’s just something about the smell of char grilled meats that makes me want to shake my club and roar… Sahara (Shop 2185 Cnr Church & Argyle St, Parramatta) is my local that i go to to partake in juicy smokey meats on skewers cooked over a charcoal grill. The promise of cheese and prosciutto at my house later on has lured out Helen, Lex, Minh, Richard and Simon to my neck of the woods.

Mezze dips platter served with crisp garlic herb pide bread ($14.90). After the majority of the group manage to get lost we are late to start eating and when the dips platter arrive we set upon scooping and slathering the dips onto the bread. I’m disappointed that the beetroot dip wasn’t available but the spinach dip is tasty enough to make up for lack of beetroot dip.

Diablo chilli garlic prawns ($16.90). The prawns arrive to oohs and ahhs but sadly was pretty devoid of all forms of chilli and garlic.

Kusbasi shish ($22.90)- Skewered and bbq tender lamb backstrap marinated in Sahara’s famous herbs and spices served with authentic salad, pilaf rice and aioli. We also ordered the Adana shish ($21.90) but for the life of me both looked the same in my photos. They definitely tasted different but my photo skills are fail. I liked the Adana shish which was lamb mince instead of pieces and were juicier than the kusbasi.

Lamb cutlets ($26.90). The lamb cutlets arrive and our group of six eye the 5 cutlets warily before Minh is given the job of cutting the lamb off the cutlet and cutting into equal portions. The girls then steal the bones and gnaw away hoho

Authentic dondurma ($11). Not wanting to stuff ourselves in preparation of the cheese and meats that was to come we decided to order one dessert between us all to share lol the waitress was tops tho she just smiled and asked if we wanted 6 spoons. The icecream is not as chewy as i expected. I think i thought there would be threads of icecream haha

Turkish apple tea ($3). The tea arrives and boy it is freaking hot! But ah so sweeeeet

I like my tshirt heh it says video games ruined my life good thing i have 2 extra lives :D
Back to home

I went to the similarly named Sahra by the River, before Christmas. Totally recommended! We had a banquet meal and everything was yummy, but the highlight was the Fatoush salad. Salad has no business tasting that good!
