The boy hates going grocery shopping with me because i like to walk down every single aisle and look at everything. i tend to get suckered into new products quite easily and something i found the other day was Aeroplane Jelly- Create a Jelly!

And yes i realise i can make my own flavour jelly using gelatin/pectin but hey like i said- easily suckered into! The box of jelly was 89c so i thought hey why not lets give it a go. Decided on making lychee jelly and of course Mother energy drink jelly heh heh

So add the boiling water to the packet mix give it a good stir and then add in the flavour you want. The back of the box says you can pretty much use any flavouring like cordial, sports drinks etc but not fresh kiwi, pineapple or paw paw because they’re uber acidic so the jelly won’t set because these fruits contain protease, which breaks down the protein in the jelly THANKS BENN!

4 hours later and presto! i added lychee bits because was worried not enough lychee flavour since i’d only just used the syrup in the can. i was right about it not being lychee enough but loved the fruit bits. The Mother energy drink jelly was awesome tho and super zingy! Wonder how it would taste if i used the V or Red Bull shots hmm

Ended up doing an extra Coke jelly this morning cos i wanted to see what the bubbles would do and yeah it created a weird foamy layer on top i think it’d be better if i use Coke that was flat so less bubbles. And maybe Coke syrup would make it super Coke flavoured? Think i’m gonna try champagne next or maybe MAPLE SYRUP JELLY!
Back to home
Maybe it’s just cos it’s really late or something, but Passiona/Pasito jelly sounds really damn good and I don’t even like passionfruit.
— Rose Nov 13, 04:27 AM #Ahh I saw this in the supermarket! How fun! Maple syrup jelly sounds awesome, you gotta do it!
— Steph Nov 13, 09:43 AM #WOW. That is pretty awesome find. Hmm… Sarsi jelly? :) HAHA
— Shelvia Nov 13, 09:53 AM #Mwahaha I wanna try Red Bull jelly, now
— Fiona Nov 13, 10:40 AM #I normally do my grocery shopping online and don’t get to see such goodies – but I just added to packs to my cart thanks to you! :D
— Kel Nov 13, 11:25 AM #Coke is uber acidic as well, but acidity is not the reason why you can’t use pineapple etc.
These fruits contain protease, which breaking down the protein in the jelly.
Interesting product though in the way they’re marketing it.
— Benn Glazier Nov 13, 11:33 AM #Haha yes you need to do Sarsi jelly!
It does seem to sell what is basically gelatin in a pretty box but haha, you did say you’re easily suckered! lol
— Helen (Grab Your Fork) Nov 13, 11:38 AM #What about maple syrup and bacon jelly!
Ok, maybe a little weird.
I saw that Heston Blumenthal make a pineapple jelly but he had to include chili, which stopped the protease from breaking the jelly down.
— Simon Nov 13, 11:54 AM #ooh thats soo cool! hahah what an interesting combination-lychees & mother & coke . how did it taste?
— Suzanne Nov 13, 12:31 PM #Very interesting! Must ry it.
— joey@FoodiePop Nov 13, 04:28 PM #Hahah pure maple syrup mmmmm and go with bacon as well as S said!
— FFichiban Nov 13, 06:02 PM #!!!!!!!!!!!
I want, I want, I want!
I would start with dessert wines (acid problem?), definitely lychees, ginger beer, and perhaps all my favourite cocktails. What about beer jelly???
— Tina Nov 13, 07:03 PM #Hey, Suze!
Great post as usual. What a sweet idea! I’m going to try it out. We both have a serious weakness for energy drinks… Do you read the little blurbs on the back of Mother cans? The first time I saw them at the supermarket, I spent about 10 minutes going through all the cans to read them all… Hahaha. Man purse. <3
Your SG crab post made me crave chilli crab… Can you rec somewhere in Sydney that does an awesome chilli crab? I’d really appreciate it. Mmm…
<3 Have a lovely weekend!
