All you can eat ribs at Cafe Ish, Surry Hills

17 May 2010, 01:42

Dearly beloved. We are gathered here today in the presence of these witnesses to celebrate the union of food bloggers and all you can eat ribs. Heh. Cafe Ish (82 Campbell St, Surry Hills note- the Albion St cafe has closed) has started doing all you can eat ribs for $35p.p on Wednesday nights. That’s right all you can eat ribs baby yeah! Though there is a 1.5 hr time limit from when the first bowls appear and a surcharge if there’s too much wastage. But the ribs oh how they are fan freaking tastic!

Oh hai. Ready for some tastyness! The ribs: Blue gum smoked beef or pork ribs marinated in sake, soy, mirin and ginger finished with coriander, fresh chili, shallots, sesame and black vinegar.

Bowls of giant mutant sized pork ribs were set down on the table and we fall silent with the sounds of nomming. Nom nom. Nom. But not before an avalanche of shutter clicks. Click click. Btw Josh doesn’t mind photos just have a chat with him and let him know. Hi Josh!

Beef ribs. Fat and meat meld together for awesomeness. The bowl held a deceptively large amount of super tender juicy morsels of meat with ribbons of melt in the mouth fat. Oh gawd. Need more.

We ordered some sides- Edamame with Murray River pink salt ($6)

Fries with wasabi mayo ($6) are the stuff dreams are made of and were so freaking addictive it was painful trying to decide if i wanted the chips to compete for stomach space with the ribs

Japanese Potato Salad ($5). I only managed a couple of pieces of mayo and shallot covered potato nubbins because my stomach was nearing the explodey point. Stomach how could you fail me?

Carnage. Of course the night is not over until we have dessert. The suggestion of 1 of everything was met with a slight pause as we eyed each other before someone chimes in with ‘how about 2 of everything’ and we chortle with glee

Lemon delicious is indeed delicious, fluffy and light with a lemony zing and is so very moreish. Heh more-ish. Geddit? Oh dear i think it’s time for bed.

Wattleseed creme brulee with azuki beans. The girls had fun cracking into the caramelized layer which gave way with a satisfying crunch and hid creamy smooth custardy innards that had the slight nuttiness of wattleseed.

Yeah i totally didn’t write down what this was. Um. Anyone? Bueller? Um chocolate gateau? Omg [brain sputter] with a giant scoop of wattle seed ice cream and a dab of sour plum jam so sour it was like someone hit you in the face with a giant flavour bag of sourness (bwahaha Masterchef reference) but when eaten with a spoonful of the rich chocolate made for a perfect pairing of sweet and sour goodness.

Drinks were had. Wine, Sake (otoko yama) and crazy awesome Mad Brewers Orchard Ale. And we were merry. And oh how i must return soon for the beef ribs are calling to me…

  31. Hey Suze sorry I have taken so long to reply, something to do with me, modems and a lack of brain cells…its a white thing.
I was extremely impressed to see my fave blogger go in there first, and even more impressed to see her hot hubby a week later. Alas not as impressed as the table who I introduced to your hubby….I didn’t realise food bloggers had groupies.
any ways thanks for the pics and words etc.

  32. Ribs are my most favourite food! (except on first dates!). How do they compare to Hurricanes? Does the meat fall off the bone? :)
