Poptarts

4 June 2010, 06:44

I’ve always had a fascination with American snacks. Too much teevee means seeing characters regularly eat stuff like Twinkies, Animal Crackers, Hershey’s Kisses but most of all Pop Tarts! For my birthday some super awesome food bloggers scored me several boxes of the famed sugary toaster pastries think they were bought from SugarFix?

I have a thing for layers…

My flavours: Brown Sugar Cinnamon, Hot Fudge Sundae, Chocolate Fudge, S’mores, Chocolate Chip. The thing I found most amusing with the packaging was the bright yellow bubble exclaiming ‘good source of 7 vitamins and minerals!’ In case you were wondering they contain Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, Iron, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin and Folic Acid. A look at the nutrition panel on the back reveals each pastry contains a whopping 32g of sugar! Almost a whole can of Coke (40g)! But anywhos let’s not dwell.

As soon as I heard the words brown sugar and cinnamon I knew it would be awesome. Not as sweet as the other flavours, the smell of cinnamon fills the air.

The Hot Fudge Sundae Pop Tart was the most colourful looking of my collection with the chocolate crust just fudgey enough with a smooth vanilla filling and a smattering of rainbow coloured sprinkles. All that was missing was a shiny red cherry on top.

The Chocolate Fudge is my second fav with a super chocolatey crust and rich chocolatey fudgey innards

I didn’t like the S’mores pop tart because it had a weird tasting marshmallow filling that was a bit too artificial for my liking. Yes I can see the irony. Don’t judge.

The Chocolate Chip is not as sweet as the Chocolate Fudge which isn’t a bad thing as by now I’ve gone into a sugar coma.

I only ate half of each Pop Tart but wheee sugar rush!

  6. Are these not sold here anymore in the supermarkets? I remember them but of course not as many flavours. I used to have the strawberry and chocolate ones at one stage during high school…until I realised how much sugar was in them! Definitely not as healthy as, say, aubergine =p

  14. I remember back in the 90s when they sold these through Kelloggs or Sanitarium or something. They came in the awesome strawberry jam flavour, not like the fake s’berry in the US ones. Shame, so many of my fave childhood foods have been wiped out :( :(

But so glad you like our present :P Wonder how long it’ll take you to get through it hehe
