Panasonic Lumix TZ10 + a giveaway!

18 August 2010, 09:04

Sponsored by Nuffnang

I normally use a dslr when taking photos at a restaurant or when I go out to events but sometimes the camera is just a little too heavy and won’t fit into my handbag. It can be a bit awkward to hold when juggling a drink and a plate of food and so when Nuffnang offered to let me trial the new Panasonic Lumix TZ10 I jumped at the chance!

Weighing in at 218g the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 is definitely a lot lighter compared to my dslr (900g not incl lens) though it is a bit more bulkier than other point and shoots because of the GPS chip used for the location tagging function. While I like the idea of being able to use the geotagging in sorting out my photos unfortunately the software seems to be mac unfriendly.

The 3inch lcd screen is massive and bright even when viewing pics in direct sunlight. The HD video function is pretty sweet, the focusing and the sound is sharp with none of the hassle of manual focusing with a dslr. The 25mm wide-angle 12x optical zoom f/3.3-4.9 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens let’s me squish in more humans into photos without having to take a step back.

I had fun playing with the different functions like the ‘transform’ which magically makes things skinnier heh heh it’s a thin Mashimaro!

‘Pin hole’ takes me back to school days

The Panasonic Lumix TZ10 also incorporates a manual mode so aperture and shutter speeds can be adjusted. The macro mode is decent if there’s enough light mmm biscuits.

Haha loved the ‘photo frame’ designs.

‘Film grain’ to give ordinary pics a classic look

At a RRP $650, this 12.1 Megapixels camera is a fun addition to my camera collection and thanks to the people at Panasonic we are giving away a Panasonic Lumix TZ10! All you have to do is leave a comment on this post and answer this question:

Where in the world would you take the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 and what photo would you take?

Please leave a valid email address! Competition closes 11:59 pm AEDST on Friday 3 September 2010. For full terms and conditions here

  1. This is such a cool give away! I would take the Lumix TZ10 the the Arctic Circle with me at the end of this year, lie in the snow and take photos of the Northern Lights!

    Maria @ Scandifoodie    Aug 18, 09:29 AM    #

  2. I’d take my Lumix to to the kitchen of a bustling Cantonese restaurant in Hong Kong. Only a camera with that sophisticated manual mode could capture the leaping flames of the wok, the meticulous details of the garnishes AND the flurry of action as the chefs race to deliver their masterpieces.

    — Riss    Aug 18, 10:50 AM    #

  3. I would take the Lumix TZ10 back to Tahiti, and take the same photos of the over-water bungalows that I took with my old compact camera. But I wouldn’t drop this one in the water pooling in my Kayak.

    Lachie    Aug 18, 10:55 AM    #

  4. I would take it to the deserts of North Africa (specifically, Egpty and Libya) to take magnificent photos of the purity and sterility that is the desert.

And of course, photos of the food of the Bedouins and Numidians.

I just came back from Egypt, would love to go back to take better pictures! I still regret not being able to take the magnificent sunset that I saw in the White Desert…

    — Harimau    Aug 18, 11:16 AM    #

  5. I would buy an underwater housing for the Lumix TZ10 and take it to Egypt with me. I would take photos while scuba diving in the Blue Hole, in the Red Sea. I would capture the 100m+ deep crystal clear blue water (while staying above 40m, as that is the recreational diving limit!), and photograph the beautiful coral and reef fishies.

    — Winnie    Aug 18, 11:17 AM    #

  6. I would go back to Italy. Portovenere actually. When I was over there I had the best pizza of my life at a tiny little out of the way cafe. I want a photo of the cafe so I can tell people where to go for incredible pizza, and I’d also take a photo of the pizza. And every now and then I’d look at that pizza photo and smile at the memory of it, the way some people do their wedding photos. :)

    Sally    Aug 18, 11:20 AM    #

  7. I would take the Lumix TZ10 to my farm & pretend to take pictures of the cattle whilst secretly taking photo’s of the hot cowboys…. who knows, maybe i’ll start a lolcowz trend? heh heh

    Sunny    Aug 18, 11:30 AM    #

  8. Where in the world or where not in the world? :) But with one place it would definitely be at my brother’s wedding at the end of this year :) :) I think it would capture the beauty of love perfectly especially the wedding kiss or first dance! :D And then of course followed by many food photos from the reception! Hehe ~ thank you for the opportunity :D

    — Vanessa    Aug 18, 11:34 AM    #

  9. I would call my camera Paula and I would take her on a wild romantic date after of which I would propose to my date and caputre the moment he says yes.
Because there is no way he’d say no!

    Mel    Aug 18, 11:45 AM    #

  10. I’m planning a trip around Vietnam in April next year so I would love to be able to have the Lumix TZ10 on hand to capture the World Heritge beauty of Halong Bay, the breathtaking views of Sapa and it’s hill tribes, the crazy city streets of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, and the relaxing ancient town of Hoi An.

    — Amber    Aug 18, 11:49 AM    #

  11. WOW! what a delicious giveaway! :)
I would take Lumix TZ10 to Korea where my best friend is getting married.
Her parents disapprove her finace and they say she will be disowned if she goes ahead. Coming from an Asian background, this should be enough to break the relationship but my friend stood her ground and is getting married next month. As her best friend I support her 100% and am willing to fly to Korea to be her Maid of Honour. So I would love to take Lumix TZ10 to Korea to take photos of us on my brave bestie’s special day! :)

    — Nan    Aug 18, 11:54 AM    #

  12. I would take the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 somewhere incredibly beautiful, like the Greek Islands to truly show off what it can do! I would capture a photo of the piercing blue Aegean Sea against the white washed background of the village hills.
The classic shot, although ideally, I would have my Mum and sister in this photo as part of an ‘all girls’ holiday – something we’ve always wanted to do. Even though I would want to keep it for myself, I would give the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 to my Mum, because she doesn’t have a digital camera and this one seems super user friendly. She would love that. Thank you!

    — Fiona    Aug 18, 12:06 PM    #

  13. I’d take my Lumix TZ10 home and take a picture with my family. Nothing beats a nice family picture with all 3 (or 4) generations including grandparents and kids. Thank you for hosting the competition x

    mashi    Aug 18, 12:17 PM    #

  14. I would take the Lumix TZ10 to the US and take a picture of my lovely husband. That would be proof to him that America isn’t as horrible as he thinks it will be and then he may actually take me there! :)

    Shannon    Aug 18, 12:44 PM    #

  15. I would take the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 to Japan next year during the cherry blossom season. I’m hoping to take photos of wind swept cherry blossoms, assuming the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 is capable of capturing the moving flower petals :P

    — Samantha    Aug 18, 01:03 PM    #

  16. I will take my TZ10 to my family holiday in Europe next year. To capture all the happy moments with our family and friends in Holland, glorious French food in Paris, happy time in the Tuscany and the blue and white houses on the cliff top of Santorini.

Ellie (Almost Bourdain)    Aug 18, 01:14 PM    #

  17. I would take it with me back to Paris, so that I could capture the gleeful smiles of everyone walking into Pierre Herme. Would any other photo so clearly capture Real Happiness? :)

    Hannah    Aug 18, 01:14 PM    #

  18. Where in the world would I take it? With me 24/7 of course! Captivating every single special moment my little niece takes in her milestone years in the future (she’s only an adorable 5 month toddler at the moment!) Every picture taken of her milestone in the future is definitely worth more than a million words.

    — Kylie    Aug 18, 01:21 PM    #

  19. My job sometime send me to places which I never been, like Bathurst where I can stand on my balcony room watching cars speed by as my hotel’s room is next to Mt Panorama’s track, this will require camera which can capture speed.
Sometime I will be in Kiama where I need a pinhole effect for the blowhole or the macro effect for these delicious dinners at local restaurants.
The sure next thing is, I will capture these European buildings, feel and excitements in Melbourne next month and December plus these delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners.
Of course, I will use the transform one on myself so that I will not regret eating these while in Melbourne and capturing these moments with the Lumix camera and my tummy.
So many things to capture with Lumix TZ10 and so many places to explore yet…

    — Lilia    Aug 18, 01:26 PM    #

  20. I would take the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 and takes pictures of food. A lot of food. And then use the ‘transform’ mode to make myself look thinner because I ate all that food.

    Lex    Aug 18, 01:39 PM    #

  21. i would…take the camera to my room and have photo whoring sessions in ‘transform’ mode to make myself appear skinnier :D
oh and, to lots and lots of restaurants and snap pretty pictures of the food. I also don’t have to worry about getting fat from eating so much cause I can make myself skinny again with transform.

    sugarpuffi    Aug 18, 02:28 PM    #

  22. Great give away Suze!

    Gastronomy Gal    Aug 18, 02:48 PM    #

  23. I will take the camera to Lake tekapo, NZ and wait for the aurora australis (southern lights) to appear. By using the camera at that point in time will help in judging just how great that camera is as lake tekapo has a ban on lights at night and the southern lights is hard to capture on non-slr cameras.

    — Audz    Aug 18, 03:47 PM    #

  24. Since I can’t afford to go anywhere exotic, I would take the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 with my everywhere in my day to day tasks and try to make an everyday boring situation look stunning and creative with the help of this amazing camera.

    Mai    Aug 18, 03:58 PM    #

  25. I’d take the camera to bed with me and take a picture of my dreams!!

    — Yui    Aug 18, 04:22 PM    #

  26. I would take the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 with me everywhere I go on a daily basis and take photos of people I meet, food I eat and people walking down the street.

    — Peter    Aug 18, 04:25 PM    #

  27. AWESOME! I would take it with me on my next trip to India where I’d visit local markets and capture all the people, colours, foods and chaos so that when I go back and look at the photos, it’s just like being there all over again! :)

    Ladybird    Aug 18, 04:36 PM    #

  28. id take it to my boyfriends place! we always say we need to take photos together, as we barely have any, yet we never do. “trying out a new camera” can be an excuse for us!

    — alice    Aug 18, 04:42 PM    #

  29. We’re going to Hawaii to elope in December, it would be perfect to get our witnesses to take photos and videos of our wedding to share with our loved ones upon our return home!!

    — Bec    Aug 18, 04:53 PM    #

  30. With a Lumix TZ10 I’d finally be able to take snazzy shots of nature and go to the Great Barrier Reef. I’d take as many photos and video of the life teeming underwater before it all disappears with the changing climate.

    sherls    Aug 18, 04:59 PM    #

  31. Hi Suze
Would luvvvvvvvvv this camera, my current dodgy sony is on the way out, Gf has recently created a new food blog, so what better way to take great foodie pics
    May the best person win

    — Jason    Aug 18, 06:06 PM    #

  32. I will actually use the camera to take some nice pictures of my new apartment (tiny but cosy) and send it back to my family and friends in Malaysia for them to have a look.

    — WY    Aug 18, 06:07 PM    #

  33. I would take a photo each day of what makes me smile and then i can make a photo diary out of it. Or maybe i will just limit the photos to what foods make me smile! :)

    — jess    Aug 18, 07:17 PM    #

  34. where and what picture would i take with this camera? a very hard question but i know for sure it will be somewhere not far from home. a photo which shows the simplicity of everyday life and if its to take a photo of a particular dish or food, it will depict the culture and everyday life of the country or place. No lavish ingredients or display of food will truly illustrate the food for everyday middle class people. I would like to show the world that simplicity is still the most rich value of all.

  35. Hi Suze! This giveaway is no mere coincidence – I can barely contain my excitement! I was browsing online reviews and videos on digital cameras, hoping to buy myself my very first digital camera (yes, shocking, I know!) as a lil treat for my upcoming birthday this Friday. I’ve been snapping photos all this while using only a 2MP phone camera. If I can produce a 2MP-shot like this one at http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y51/jane_gun/Sydney%20Outings/?action=view&current=sculpturesbythesea2008_088.jpg (no photoshop here whatsoever), imagine the shots I can take with a proper digital camera!

Then I remembered how my own blog is hosting a Nuffnang-Lumix TZ10 ad and thought I’ll check Nuffnang homepage if there is any new contest that will perhaps offer a Panasonic camera as a prize – lo and behold, there is such a contest much to my delight! Decided to visit your blog, Suze, and those photos are simply amazing! =)

I’m planning to do a round-Australia-continent trip (NSW-QLD-NT-WA-SA-VIC-NSW) later this year in summer after my exams and the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 is the perfect travel companion for me to shoot panaromic views of Australia’s beautiful natural landscapes and impressive man-made landmarks. Oh, and of course, not forgetting snapshots of all the great food and dear friends in all the different states!

I’m so thrilled at this opportunity that I’ve even penned down a poem:

    My lil summer adventure friend,
My perfect finale to the year 2010,
My memory of majestic Australian land,
    My Panasonic, my Lumix TZ10.

Will hold off buying my very first digital camera / self-birthday gift and hope for the best – if I’m blessed enough to win, I can best be contacted via email at jane_gun@hotmail.com … All the best to everyone joining this contest and thanks again to the organizers for such a wonderful opportunity! _

  36. I would love to bring Lumix to SouthEast Asia. Lumix GPS feature will enable me to find all those delicious gawker foods … so many, too tasty and always unable to find it again …

    — Andy    Aug 18, 11:53 PM    #

  37. To the hospital to take pictures of my bub when she arrives in November. I’m super excited to see her and I know she is going to be gorgeous and fabulous and come out sparkling clean with bows on! I’m sure she wont look at all icky-babyish… even if what I have seen of her on the ultrasound has been kinda, well, freaky ugly.

Hmmm. Can mothers say things like that? I think not. I’m such a noob at this.

    — Katie&Wags    Aug 19, 12:00 AM    #

  38. Heyy!
Well I think I would take my TZ10 to Norway/New Zealand and actually see for myself the beauty of the Northern/Southern Lights =D I know it happens around every march and september of the year, it would be sweet as!

    — Robert    Aug 19, 12:13 AM    #

  39. I would take my Lumix camera to the kitchen and take pictures of all the food I eat every single day, every meal, breakfast, lunch and dinner!

    — Helen    Aug 19, 02:22 AM    #

  40. I’d be so happy to win it that I’d take it everywhere and would shoot everything: From strangers with friendly faces on the street to funny signs on buildings to the face of the girl I love and to dorky self portraits of dorky ole me. Then I’d start a flickr page named “ Life-and more, thanks to Chocolatesuze!” and it would be the funnest page Flickr has ever seen

    — Edo Plasschaert    Aug 19, 05:52 AM    #

  41. Oh my – what a great little camera!! I think it would be the perfect camera to take on my next trail run!!!

  42. Hey Suze,
I haven’t seen one of my oldest friends in over a year. Last month she made a major move from Canberra to Bangkok for work, and in October I get to go over and finally catch up. The first photo I would take is a hold-out-your-arm-and-smoosh-your-faces-together one, and decorate it with a little digital photo frame so we could have a fun memory. Then I would document 3 countries worth of beautiful scenery and street food over 3 weeks as we work our way down through Malaysia and Singapore. The built-in GPS tagging would be invaluable to remember everywhere we went!

    carly/fivesquaremeals    Aug 19, 09:25 AM    #

  43. My last digital camera got flooded because a friend borrowed it to take it underwater :( so this camera would be an awesome replacement!

I am going back to the UK next year to see my family and my nephew that I have never met before (he’s almost 2!) I would take photos of my family and capture all the moments that I have missed over the past 3 years while I’ve been in Australia. I would also take photos of all the sights in the UK & Europe, as I am taking my partner over with me to travel around Europe and work as diving instructors. My partner is obsessed with Monopoly, so she can use it to take photos of all the places that are on the Monopoly board in London, and then she can make her own Monopoly board (and say she’s been to every place!) to go with the other 6-7 Monopoly boards her and her Monopoly obsessed friends own!! haha. Thanks for the great competition, Suze!

    gaffa    Aug 19, 10:10 AM    #

  44. I would take it with me every where I go to capture the little gems I find around Melbourne

    — Sally    Aug 19, 11:52 AM    #

  45. The Lumix would take me into a whole new world of technology. I have a nearly lost love of photography but have not delved into digital. I would love the Lumix to renew my passion for photograph and to take a leap into new technology.

    — Dianne    Aug 19, 12:36 PM    #

  46. i would take it too Europe and capture the beautiful scenery and ancient buildings also the lovely sunset at the countries i visit.

    — em    Aug 19, 02:28 PM    #

  47. I would take the TZ10 to India – Delhi to be more specific – and weave my way through the crowd in the Jummah Bazaar (a market behind one of the mosques) in Old Delhi. I’d take pictures of the women in colourful saris and the children playing in the alleys.

But most of all, I’d make my way to the street food carts and take a picture of the street food sellers deftly kneading roti’s and roasting beef kebabs over charcoal and swiftly serving it to the many customers crowded at their stalls.

    — A    Aug 19, 04:34 PM    #

  48. I would take the TZ10 to my husband’s 50th birthday celebration in beautiful Eumundi, Sunshine Coast. First it would be presented as a gift, then it would be used to remember the occasion which will be shared with family and friends. Life is about precious moments!!!

    — Julie Swain    Aug 19, 07:42 PM    #

  49. Definitely back to Indonesia to take pictures of all the glorious “makanan jalanan” or street food. The dirtier the roadside, the nicer the food. Don’t ask me why but the food def has the additional ooooomph and aaaaa factor!

    — Jesslyn    Aug 19, 10:44 PM    #

  50. MALDIVES! gorgeous deep blue ocean, crystal clear water, endless supply of orange punch. what better than to take pics with this new lumix! exactly what you need to capture all those moments!

    — Jesslyn    Aug 19, 10:49 PM    #

  51. Back home to Singapore! My sister is getting married and I want to make her a scrapbook out of pictures, old and new. A camera will certainly come in handy! ;)

and plussss, i am very excited to try jaan par andre in singapore! this camera will be discreet enough to take picture with and yet with a quality that knocks socks off

    — Pennyna    Aug 19, 10:51 PM    #

  52. Definitely agree with the DSLR being too bulky to take everywhere. I would take the TZ10 to Pt Perpendicular (NSW) to capture whales as we’re climbing on the seacliffs… and the dinner we deserve after that!

    — SuLi    Aug 19, 11:24 PM    #

  53. I would take that baby into every restaurant I could get into, and overcome my fear of idea theft retribution! Mostly I would take it with me to London (arrrrrgh!) in December, to my mecca, Fat Duck – where I assume taking photos of your plates is probably faced with imprisonment. Which I would also photo-document. Slash there’d be photos of me all puffy and watery-eyed next to Heston Blumenthal, potentially attempting to pash him and giving a peace sign. That’s what I’d do with a Lumix.

    Nicola Moore    Aug 19, 11:51 PM    #

  54. I would take it everywhere I possibley could to take pics of my 2yr old and 1 yr old. They are the most precious things in the world to me.

  55. I will take the TZ10 with me to the little beach in hamilton island in my own wedding, I figured I should turn around the old traditions of instead of being shoot by alot of cameras. I will be my own photographer and take pic of myself and my hubby and all my familes !

    — Wendy    Aug 20, 11:45 AM    #

  56. I will take TZ10 to anywhere around the world, capturing a diversity of colours in different shapes and forms – people, food and architects….

  57. Home into my heart and take photos there.

    — Roger Qian    Aug 20, 02:09 PM    #

    Anna    Aug 20, 02:18 PM    #

  59. I’d take it into space (Richard Branson, if you’re reading this, hook us up!) and get a world first, exclusive shot of the dark side of the moon. Using flash, of course!

    — Renae    Aug 20, 04:21 PM    #

  60. I want to bring it home to Singapore to take pictures of my aging parents and near 90 year old grandmother..proper clear and creditable shots of them which will reflect them truthfully and while I am there, great shots of familiar shots of favourite food which I will frame and hang around my kitchen as an inspiration!

    — Rachel    Aug 20, 06:27 PM    #

  61. I’d take it to India to take countless pictures of lemons, the fruit itself, the tree, the production, and any food with lemon, Why? cause i just love lemons beyond the point where i can describe and India is the country with the largest lemon production

    — Katrina    Aug 20, 06:38 PM    #

    — Peter    Aug 20, 09:22 PM    #

  64. I would take my camera to Japan and photograph the food, the people, attractions, night life, EVERYTHING! Mainly the food though… :)

    — Brian    Aug 21, 12:06 AM    #

  65. All over America! My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to the States next year and we’ve always, always wanted to go to New York – there are so many pictures of things I could take of there but I think the first picture of our very own apartment in the city of our dreams would be amazing.

  66. the most important things in life are the ones that we hold close. with the Lumix, I’ll take photos with my best friends at a park or a field filled with dandelions, whilst the sun is setting behind us. :D and maybe we’ll blow bubbles too. — Kylie Miller    Aug 24, 08:30 AM    #

  72. Me and my partner are off to China next month. My partner, a keen foodie and a fearless eater is dying to try out the delectable delights and exotic ‘treats’ sold at the markets. I can’t wait to snap some pictures of him taking the first bite of his skewered scorpion satay… and his subsequent reaction afterwards.

    — Clara    Aug 24, 11:28 AM    #

  73. My partner & I are going to the US shortly and I would absolutely love to take some photos of us enjoying a slice of famous NY pizza or partaking of a hot dog from a street vendor. How New York!

    — Melanie    Aug 24, 12:23 PM    #

  74. I would love to bring this camera to the third world country such as the sub-Saharan Africa country which is full of hunger and extreme poverty. I would use the camera to shoot down the living status and the lifestyle of the people over there and trying to reflect to the developing or developed country’s residents (submitted to the international magazine or through internet) of how lucky they are and remind them of the possible donation. I would also love to shoot the helpers and the volunteers helping up in these countries to let the whole world know how awesome these people are to be selfless and volunteer to give in their life/time.

    — Jess    Aug 24, 03:59 PM    #

  76. I’m from North East Queensland so if I had this camera, I’d take it on helicopter rides or (if I can’t do that) hot air balloon rides over the coast of North East Queensland to capture the beautiful beaches and islands of great barrier reef from a birds’ eye view.

  77. I would totally take it to Japan with me in November and snap pictures of people falling over in the snow, geishas in Gion (fingers crossed), the bright city lights as well as the neverending food, glorious FOOOOOOOD.

Last time i went to Vietnam with my point and shoot (the best of its category at a stunning 4MP), i couldn’t remember where any of the food pics were taken and retorted to “it was a little cafe in Hanoi i think? or maybe it was Dalat”

  79. Well..i always dream of going back to Malaysia to take a stroll in the Ramadan Markets or Bazaars especially in and around Kuala Lumpur. It will be fantastic to finally get hold of this Lumix TZ10 to take beautiful pictures of the local muslim community shopping around for food to ‘break fast’ and not forgetting others who are there to checkout the colourful arrays of food that’s on offer from traditional local delicacies, sweets and drinks to the modern take on cakes and biscuits. I could easily tell everyone a picture story of this once in a year event. Imagine that …Like they say a picture tells a thousand words….

  81. Being my constant companion, I’d click photos of everything that catches my eye, just to reflect on the moments that were important to me and to remind me that you don’t have to go to the extreme to find beautiful things, you just have to change your perspective in life. Beauty is all around you.

  82. I would like to take Panasonic TZ10 to work everyday (I am working in Milsons Point and TZ10 is a prefect camera for everyday).
I feel really bad that I can only capture pics with my mobile while I am taking a after-lunch-walk. (my SLR is a bit too heavy for everyday)
There is no better place than Milsons point, for harbour view, for laughing kids in Luna Park, for loving family in lavender bay :D

  89. As i’ve just broken my camera (not on purpose, but it had a good life – broke in Paris!) – I’d take the Black Panasonic Lumix TZ10 with me everywhere so that I can record everything – the good, the bad, the ugly and the tasty! Especially the tasty!

  91. I’d take the TZ10 to Africa where the world’s largest wildlife preserves are located.
Thousands of free roaming animals just waiting to be captured on film(sd card in this case).

But first, I’d take it to the end of uni semester party where coincidentally, there will also be many wild animals :)

  92. hi Susan!
The place that I would like to take the new Lumix TZ10 is nowhere else but home. So i could capture memorable moments to share it with loved ones. Making sure that i would be able to capture my family and friends laughter each and every time there are gatherings.
    Thank for this opportunity! =)

  93. I would take this camera with me everywhere. Just like I did with an earlier version that got stolen. I hope whoever stole it enjoyed the pictures as much as I did. I always got so many wonderful comments on the pictures that I took. It would be so nice to have such an amazing replacement. Thank you for your kind consideration.
