OH HAI! Yep that’s me with the one and only, the crazy Dan Hong. He’s been a busy bloke Dan has- Lotus, Ms G’s and now El Loco (64 Foveaux Street, Surry Hills) next door to the Excelsior Hotel. A coupla weeks ago, before this crazy cold took ahold of my health, I was with some awesome humans at Merivale’s newest addition to the family, El Loco, a Mexican Cantina which will eventually magically transform into a restaurant.

But first, a round of drinkies! Hello margaritas why you so tasty? For $13.50 these beverages were enthusiastically consumed, the pink grapefruit in the Pink Cuco appealed to my inner Barbie self while Minh has opted for the salt rimmed Classic Margarita, and Jacq the fiery Jalapeno Margarita.

We score some corn chips with guacamole and salsa (thanks Dan!) and end up finding them so freaking addictive that another round is ordered. Followed by another. The guacamole was just so delicious I could’ve eaten a bucketful of it. And if you guys know me at all if you give me a packet of chips I can the entire bag in one sitting.

Al Pastor (spit roasted pork), Carne Asada (lemongrass beef), Camaron (prawn), Pollo (chicken) Tacos ($5 each). It is the promise of taco’s that has brought us here, and we have ordered one of each of all the tacos listed cept for the Tofu taco. Cos like Minh says, that’s just not on heh. Blanketed in a refreshing mix of salsa verde and coriander, the tacos are demolished in a heart beat but not before i manage to drop juicy meat innards everywhere.

The Al Pastor Pork “Torta” Sandwich ($10) is an insane bargain with its soft fluffy bun sandwiching super tender pork nubbins.

The Excelsior Hot Dog ($7) is ordered mainly because we oddly wanted some cheese. Yes odd reason but hey man cheese is a pretty powerful incentive for us :D

With a crazy awesome dj spinning some pretty random toons, El Loco is soon packed and we relinquish our prized table and stumble home but not before promising to return for more magaritas yo!

Back to home
Is that Dan Hong or Geoff Huegill? Ahahaha
I want some tender pork nubbins.
