With winter well and truly setting in, the only meals I want to eat these days are
hearty and meaty and packed full of flavour. Thanks to the awesome peeps at
Kitchenware Direct I scored the 5-in-1 Multi Cooker and knew it would be perfect for chucking in some meat and slow cooking it till the whole house filled with the smells of deliciousness. And are you ready for this? One lucky ChocolateSuze reader will win a 5-in-1 Multi Cooker so keep on reading for your chance to win!

The only thing I love more than a bowl of juicy, melt in your mouth beef ribs? A
never ending bowl! Yeah baby I heart my protein!

So we start with some beef ribs…

And all you need is: ¼ cup bbq sauce, ¼ cup coke and ¼ cup tomato ketchup! Told ya
it was easy :D

Whack everything in, close the lid, and set to High Pressure for 1 hour

And voila! Meaty goodness baby!

Of course it’s not all meat in this household heh heh hullo potatoes! Give em a
good scrub, whack in the pot with a bit of water, high pressure for 10mins and
woot they’re done

Dunking the cooked potatoes into icy water makes for easy skin removal. Add
some knobs of butter, salt and pepper and mash away!

Decided to give my second lot of ribs a go with some store bought marinade
and slow cooked em for 6 hours for some crazy soft ribs. Sexy times indeed.
Definitely can’t wait to try out the other functions and make some soups or
maybe steam some fish yum!
So now thanks to Kitchenware Direct, who wants to win the very awesome
5-in-1 Multi Cooker? All you have to do is leave a comment in this blog post

My fav winter memory would be having my mums lovely pumpkin soup while studying in this cold weather. Not only is the soup nice but also very warming cos mummy delievers it to my room!
— milkteaxx Jun 24, 02:04 AM #toasting marshmallows!
— Amanda A Jun 24, 03:35 AM #I grew up in Canberra, where the winter mornings are beautifully crisp and frosty. My high school was located down a grassy slope from the road and my friends and I used to “skate” down the hill on the frost on the final approach to school. So. Much. Fun.
In terms of food and winter, it is tradition in Canberra when one is out in the pubs in town to get some dirty, but FABULOUS chips and gravy from the late night takeaway and eat them in the mall with the steam warming your face.
I live on the Gold Coast now – it’s never that cold and there’s certainly no frost!
— Jackie Jun 24, 08:02 AM #Being stranded at boarding school due to deep snow and having my first Bar-B-Q. The rich smell of roasted pork, baked spuds and apple sauce always brings back fond memories.
— david dehavelland Jun 24, 08:17 AM #The first time my then boyfriend made a Chinese Pork Stew for me. Was amazed with his ability to cook. It was warm and yummy during winter. I upgraded him to husband now.
— Riini Jun 24, 08:51 AM #Woot, awesome giveaway Suze!
My favourite winter memory is from the only time I’ve been to the snow, when I was about 5. Our family went on this trip with a big group of other families, but everybody else’s kids were older than me and therefore “too cool” to play with me. Disappointed, I decided to go for a walk instead.
After a few hours of all the parents freaking out when they discovered me missing, they finally found me off the beaten path, waist-high in snow but still perfectly content. Needless to say, I wasn’t let out of anybody else’s sights for the rest of the trip – and they forced all the older kids to play with me!

— R. Jun 24, 09:14 AM #My favourite winter memory is the time I introduced everyone to Osso Bucco. The looks on my husband & in-laws face when they have that first bite of savoury soft meaty(as you say it) melt-in-your-mouth goodness was just heart warming. We have Osso Bucco almost every 2-3 weeks during winter but we will always remember the first memorable bite!
— Orion Jun 24, 10:19 AM #Favorite winter memory..eating italian in freezing melbourne with my sisters under those outdoor heaters.
— Dorine Jun 24, 10:21 AM #My favourite winter memory – the year I spent winter working in Ottawa Canada – I ice skated to work along the canal, stopping for a hot chocolate and a ‘beavertail’ on the way! This was topped only by the night my flatmate and I went iceskating on the canal at midnight after a few too many gluweins!! We didn’t stay on our feet for long that night!
— Philippa Jun 24, 10:22 AM #OMG THATS THE MOST AMAZING THING EVER! Ribs get my tastebuds excited. Bit surprised at the coke but I’d give it a go!
Favourite winter memory would be the one where I first encountered my partner. It was a high school trip to Jinderbyne, everyone was lining up for the cafeteria style food and he pushed in front of me in line. Ah romantic! lol. We didn’t get together then but the spark had begun :)
— Apple @Polkadotsandchopsticks Jun 24, 10:50 AM #I hail from a tropical country so my favourite winter memory was seeing snow for the first time when I moved to Australia. It was wet and slushy but every bit as amazing as everyone had told me. I now catch the snow season every year and snowboard to my heart’s delight.
— Tony Jun 24, 11:26 AM #You had me at beef and ribs mmmmm drool but how come so small portions?!?!?
— FFichiban Jun 24, 11:48 AM #That looks like an awesome prize… but your obsession with coke is a little scary!!
My favourite winter memory is when it snowed here when I was about 12. I live in Canberra, so snow happens but it’s a rarity. I ran outside into the yard fully clothed, dragging my cat Milo along with me. He kind of just looked around curiously for a few minutes, then – when put on the snowy ground – grew horrified and went back to the house, trying his best not to step in the snow. It was hilarious, watching this cat put his feet in the snow, clearly hating every second of it.
Other great winter memory was last year, when we were taking my Labrador Orlando (yes, after Bloom… a very unfortunate childhood crush I thankfully outgrew) for a walk. He gets extremely overexcited, and he jumps around. However, it was icy on the back deck, and when he jumped mid-run, he flipped over mid-air and did a belly flop. He looked rather dazed when he got up, but was fine. Which was lucky – my mother and I nearly wet ourselves laughing.
— Ophelia Jun 24, 12:11 PM #How awesome is this kitchen gadget!!!!
One of my favourite Winter memories is tobogganing with my dad and brother. I think I was about 6 at the time – and it was the first time I had been to the snow! I thought it was a magical wonderland!!!
— Lisa Jun 24, 12:18 PM #Awesome… look at you, bistro meals is a super easy flash!
My fave winter memory is being rugged up like a snowman on a family trip to Canberra – puffy jacket, two jumpers, gloves, ear muffs – the coldest I’d ever been in my 7 years on earth!
— Tina@foodboozeshoes Jun 24, 12:22 PM #Awesome prize (and ribs recipe). Thanks for the opportunity.
— OohLookBel Jun 24, 12:30 PM #My best winter memory is ski trips to the snow. Yummy hot chocolate during the day, mulled wine in the afternoon, and schnapps at the Schuss Bar at 3am. Prost!
That looks like my table-runner!
— mademoiselle delicieuse Jun 24, 12:31 PM #Fav Memory is sitting by the fireplace with my family telling stories and eating marshmallows
— Soleima Dib Jun 24, 12:40 PM #I have to many.
— shaun@everybodylovesramen Jun 24, 12:41 PM #I grew up in North America and remember when an irrigation pipe had burst in my grandpa’s back paddock, flooding and then freezing the entire field- which was already a perfect sledding hill. I was very little, and my cousins, auntie & uncle, sister and I were quickly bundled up and waddled outside, sleds and toboggans in tow. It was the best sled ride ever! We went so fast down the hill, forgetting there was a barbed wire fence at the bottom. We had to duck down low to just miss it — and undoubtedly tore our snow suits a little.
I don’t remember how long we were out there — but we definitely were red-faced and frozen by the time we got back inside to the hot wood-fire stove and hot cocoa.
:D
All my favourite winter things involve food, because I am a summer person and don’t like the season of being cold! My favourite winter memory is probably going camping in the middle of winter. I was in denial of how cold it was – we were miserable the whole time, and it rained heaps, but coming home to a long hot bubble bath, drinking a glass of red wine, and ordering home-delivery food was the best thing ever!
— bri Jun 24, 12:51 PM #My favourite winter memory is the day Mum and I finally managed to enslave Dad. We spent the whole day in bed drinking Dad made hot chocolate and scrambled eggs on toast (the only thing he could cook). I still remember the warm snuggly feeling of bed and a full tummy, while watching My Girl with the freezing wind blowing outside!
— Gfunk Jun 24, 01:23 PM #snow hiking through perisher valley with my brother… and ending the day sitting infront of a fire place in a lodge
— Adam Ford Jun 24, 02:18 PM #My Favorited winter memory is a nice brown stew and dumper and hot potatoes and mix veggie top with bread and butter pudding.
— sally smith Jun 24, 03:35 PM #Hmm one of my favourite winter memory is in Switzerland. It was New Years day and nothing was open expect for this one restaurant. All they served were cheese fondue so the entire tour group had nothing but cheese fondue with kipfler potatoes and bread for lunch. Of course a friend and I decided to go for the endless pot of cheese fondue…we couldn’t even finish half the pot.
— Audrey Jun 24, 03:54 PM #I haven’t had cheese fondue since that day.
Favourite winter memory: My first snow ball fight up the mountains with my best friend, my parents and my grandmother. It was also the first time i touched snow. My grandmother also made some chicken curry in a pot & we ate bread dipped in curry amongst the snow. It was amazing. I’d give anything to take back that day.
— Alysha Tan Jun 24, 04:46 PM #Waking up as a child to seeing snow for the first time in England, and getting out there to see that every snowflake really is different!

— GourmetGetaways Jun 24, 05:46 PM #for someone coming from a tropical country, having 4 seasons is definitely fun especially when it’s winter! the best memory was sitting by the fireplace in a rented apartment with my family singing our favourite songs and reminiscing on our past holidays with hot pasta made by my mom. all dressed in funny layers it was certainly a winterrrrr night to remember!
— Esther Jun 24, 05:55 PM #My memorable winter moment was the first time my children saw snow. The looks on their faces said it all. They were totally in awe of the beautiful surroundings of Mt Hotham all covered in gorgeous white snow. Then they decided I was a target for a snowball fight. Gotta love your kids :)
— donze1 Jun 24, 06:18 PM #my fave winter memory is eating so much tasty soups and stews!
— newo Jun 24, 08:11 PM #Growing up on a farm, my favourite winter memory is of sitting in front of the fire, toasting thick slices of bread to eat with plenty of butter and Golden Syrup.
— Julie Jun 24, 08:51 PM #My favourite winter memory is camping out with the whole family and friends by the sea. We were out fishing all night and once we got a bit peckish we cooked up some instant noodles with the crabs we caught earlier in the day. Absolutely divine. winter+night fishing+family&friends+instant noodles=awesomeness!
— sarah Jun 24, 09:04 PM #Favourite winter memory.Living in an old bluestone homestead with open fireplaces in every room burning with what looked like the whole forest tossed in,sleeping in old double four posters beds calling out to each other Goodnight John boy etc. and then having to run hell for leather to the outside toot down the backyard been chased by the geese. Haha.We loved it.Sadly it also brings back memories of my only brother that passed away this year who had the job of carting the wood up to the homestead in a wheelbarrow that his 5 sisters stacked higher than him to push up a hill. Thanks for the memories/good times brother.

— Sue Jun 24, 10:00 PM #My first white Christmas in the US & having snowball ‘fights’ with my then in-laws!
— Shannan Jun 24, 10:34 PM #Without doubt, imagine being in the wildly romantic cobblestone streets of Rome, a delicious meal of hand made ravioli and melt in your mouth lamb roast, sublime chocolate and pecan cake hmmm .. then the man in my life bends down on one knee and pops the question! The whole restaurant celebrated yelling and screaming for champagne as only Italians can. I treasure the memory!

I throw a pillow at him and roll over.
Him being a Queenslander had never seen something I had grown up with every winter.
It was kinda cute.
My favourite winter memory is as a child going out as a family getting wood .It involved aunts , uncles , cousins & grandparents . While the old people would chop the wood , us kids would explore the woods , roast marshmallows , then we would have a bonfire & have a BBQ . Good times
— Tracy A Jun 25, 05:11 PM #My favourite winter memory would be when I was still at school my brother and I would come home and if the tumble dryer was going we knew we were having chicken soup for dinner. We both hated it but now, since my Mum’s passed I’d do anything to go back to those days and eat all the chicken soup I could.
— Tanene Donnelly Jun 25, 05:25 PM #My first and only snow boarding experiences. It all went bad when trying to get off the chair lift and the supervisors yelling and me to move and picking me up by my jacket to move me out of the way! I fell over so many times going down the hill, got smashed into by little children and managed to sprain my knee! But the best part of the whole day was having lunch. Walking into a toasty warm cafe in stupid moon boots, pigging out and enjoying a hot chocolate… only to go and torture myself on the slopes again!

— Jacky Jun 26, 06:04 PM #Waking up really early on the coldest of winter mornings, to take my now late Grandfather mushrooming. We had a ball beneath the pine tree’s, that took hours for us to drive to, picking only the best of the best shrooms. Then we went home and he taught me how to cook and preserve them the traditional Lithuanian way. We had so many jars of them it wasn’t funny. I’m so glad we had that day together, because If I went out on my own I’d have surely come back with the wrong ones….the poisonous ones!!! Even though most Aussies think the one’s we eat are the poisonous ones!!

It was freezing, there was a slight drizzle of snow and all 100 of us kids were crowded around a massive bonfire eating burnt marshmallows on damp sticks, devon and tomato sauce sandwiches and sloppy french toast with honey. Pretty gross, but so delicious when you’re 10 years old.

It was the first time we’d cooked a whole turkey, with all the trimmings. Came out fantastic, thanks to my English friend’s trick of cooking the bird upside down for 2 hours in an oven bag. The funniest part of the day was pulling the Christmas crackers. Our US friends had never seen them. Made for a hilarious afternoon with funny hats and champagne.
— Mike Jun 27, 04:40 PM #love to cook rice and meat
— sam Jun 27, 04:51 PM #Eating lamb shanks by the fire (shanks put in oven at the same time as the lamb roast, so shanks were ready a good hour before the roast was ready). This is well before lamb shanks became trendy (and expensive. They never seemed so good during summer – definitely a winter memory.
— Sandra Jun 27, 05:00 PM #I was with a group of girlfriends. We spent the night cooking a hearty feast and then stayed up all night for the Winter Solstice, telling stories and generally having fun. The next morning, before dawn, we walked down to the beach carrying more food and wood to build a bonfire. With a roaring fire we watched the first rays of the new sun spread over the horizon. Filled with a sense of wonder many of us (me included) ran and jumped into the freezing ocean before running back up the beach to dry off and warm back up by the fire, and to have something warm to eat and drink.

— Aaron Bowling Jun 28, 12:00 AM #Wow, what a beast! I remember turning up to my parents-in-law’s house for the first time (it required a trip to Canada) and being served a yummy slow cooker meal. The entire family at one table was something we had never shared.
— Brooke Jun 28, 12:07 AM #When I was 13 I missed the local town bus because I was getting busy behind the school shelter shed with my brand new first ever real life boyfriend, Benny Parker. Before I knew what was happening it was 3:40pm, the bus was long gone and I had a piano recital that my Mum and Dad had been ragging on about for weeks. I agonisingly wrenched my tongue back from the newly discovered sweet warmth of Benny’s mouth and hauled ass down the road on that wet and blustery Autumn day, busting an absolute gut to reach the Church venue in time to innocently deliver Debussy for the unsuspecting parental units. That frantic dash was the most vivid memory I have from my early teens; the wind whipped at my hair, the light drizzle stung my face and arms and the heels of my t-bar sandals kicked mud up the back of my tights and onto my skirt as I bound madly over the sodden dirt tracks that edged Church Street in my tiny rural home town. Adrenaline pulsed through my entire body and I felt electrified both from fear of parental backlash and from the incredible lightness of being that results from discovering young love’s roaming hands and exploratory tongues. That afternoon I played Clair de Lune like I never have before or since and how my own piano teacher never believed I could. My life has been full of joyous moments such as this but the first is always exceptionally incomparable simply, well, because it IS the first! The only dampener was the greasies I got from Miranda Perry who was next up to play – apparently she was none to happy with the muddy and wet piano stool I’d left her with :)
— Katie Jun 28, 11:48 AM #My favourite Winter memory is cuddling up next to my Husband on the lounge watching a romantic comedy.

— JENNIFER Jun 28, 11:49 PM #finally come true, to see snow, to learn to snowboard and have a snow fight, chatting around an open fireplace in the evenings was such a pleasure, as coming from the Gold Coast we never get a real winter, so this was truly a winter the whole family will never forget and will remember with the fondest of memories always.
My best memory is eating goulash in Austria after my first day skiing. It was an incredible surreal experience and many years later I can still taste the goulash. That might be the first recipe I try in the Multi-cooker!

— Chanel Jun 30, 03:50 PM #My mum’s vegetable soup. She was a good cook but as a non meat eater (back in the day) I didn’t appreciate any of it..in fact, I would put cut up bits of meat into a toy panda that had an empty stomach cavity (Don’t ask). So when she made veg soup one winter I was delighted, but she hated it cos she put in too much pepper….and thus began my lifelong love of PEPPER…glorious, glorious pepper. There was never “too much” and all these yrs later, no veg soup is complete without lashings of pepper…as are eggs, and tomatoes and potato and curry and……yep, you get the message. My kids are a major disappointment, they hate pepper ;-{

Since I was there to attend the local high school with my host sister, I had to get up super early in the morning (beating the sun
— Vivian - vxdollface Jul 4, 01:22 PM #.it was still dark outside!) since class started at 7:30am. I remember blindly putting my layers of clothes on and trudging through the knee deep snow to the car.. and without fail every single morning, my host father would make us hot apple cider to warm our bodies up! Ever since then, I’ve been addicted to apple cider but I’ve never had another mug that tasted the same :( not sure how he made it but it was the best cider I have ever tasted! Makes me nostalgic thinking about it :(Caamping with my partner in the middle of winter and I desperately wanted a warm shower. Romantically he heated the water on the open fire, added some cold to get it to just the right temp and poured it slowly from the bucket and I twirled around under it. It was bliss and oh so romantic.

Gazing at the stars out at night,
Wrapped in blankets, all snuggled tight,
I remember the smells lingering in the air,
And now when I smell them, I go right back there,
The smell of the marshmellows toasting,
The smell of the fish we caught roasting,
The smell of the needle pine trees,
The smell of the river in the breeze,
It’s with fond memories I remember my younger past,
And oh how I wish those days could of last.
Jumping in to bed with my toddler when he would call out to me in the middle of the night. He would kick the blankets off, be freezing cold, and I’d snuggle up to him as I felt the warmth return to his body.

— Katrina Corbett Jul 8, 10:48 AM #My favourite winter memory was being together with my whole family in our living room (which was rare since we were always moving around so much) hiding from the freezing cold which my Mum complained about non-stop, having just had a hearty dinner and about to settle down for a movie when I’d inevitably get cravings for dessert and nag my brother until he agreed help me make sticky date pudding with butterscotch sauce (a winter must!). The house would be filled with that irresistible, buttery aroma while they baked in the oven and then we’d dig into them straight away with huge scoops of vanilla ice cream, burning our tongues on the butterscotch because we were too impatient to wait for it to cool! And then we’d turn on a movie which my Mum would (without fail) fall asleep halfway through, then get up off the couch after it was finished and declare that she didn’t like/understand the plot :)
