Chinta Ria, Cockle Bay Wharf

4 July 2011, 05:38

OH HAI! Hope you guys had a lovely weekend! The boy and I were invited by the one and only Simon Goh to Chinta Ria (Roof Terrace of Cockle Bay Wharf, 201 Sussex St, Sydney) aka his Temple of Love. The giant Buddha at the entrance of the restaurant always makes me chortle and so does the bottles of lucky buddha beer heh

The first Tuesday of the month is where ‘hot food meets cool jazz’ at the Temple. Slide McBride and his band are a regular feature at Chinta Ria, providing cruisey and infectious tunes to the packed restaurant.

We start with the Vegetarian Curry Puffs ($7 for 2) which are ridiculously addictive, with potato innards wrapped in flaky pastry.

Roti with Beef Curry ($17) arrives in a flash, the fluffy roti perfect for dipping into the spicy rich curry.

Satchmo’s squid ($28.50) is something that I have dreams about with its tender squid rings and deep fried tentacles drenched in a tamarind sauce.

Fried Kway Teow ($18.50) has just the right amount of wok hei, the flat noodles has an edge of char and is tossed through with eggy nubbins and crunchy bean sprouts.

Mingus scallops ($28.50) is fried with just the right amount of butter. You know, enough that I can taste it but not too much that I feel like I’m about to have a heart attack? Good stuff.

Heh I heart people who ham it up for the camera

There was waaay too much food but we couldn’t resist dessert. Fried pineapple instead of the usual fried banana was epic-ly delicious, as was the special of roti rolled with kaya oh baby how I love kaya.

The next jazz night is this Tuesday between 7-10pm but get there early as there is a no bookings policy.

  1. lol I had a pretty horrible allergic reaction to buddha beer the last time I tried it. Jazz and curry seems like fun combo though; next step open mic night, or even better karaoke haha
