Melbourne Part 1

3 August 2011, 06:21

You know how most people start off a holiday post with a pic out the window of the sky? Helen, Minh and I were way too engrossed in playing with the chat function on the tvs in the plane. Seriously we were so busy playing multi player games that we barely noticed we’d taken off!

We were headed to Nuffnang’s Blogopolis Conference in Melbourne and after dumping our luggage at the hotel we head off to find some lunch. But first: OH LOOK A RAINBOW!

Naked For Satan (285 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, Melbourne) is on our hit list, a pinxtos bar offering freaking delicious toppings on crusty slices of baguette. Normally $2 a slice, the awesome pinxtos are a crazy 80c each during lunch on weekdays and we fill our plates from the selection at the front of the room. The eggplant chip with blue cheese is a winner with us as well as the baked potato smothered in cheese and the prawn on spiced cauliflower puree.

Of course how can we go past a few alcoholic beverages with the impending doom of having to speak in front of 300 people weighing on our minds ahahaha

We’d planned our trip well, and by ‘well’ I mean we totes winged it and managed to go to heaps of places with barely any of our usual food research. Next stop was Burch & Purchese (647 Chapel Street, South Yarra, Melbourne) a delicious looking Sweet Studio that was on Masterchef and was a must-visit on our trip.

The famous wall of ingredients.

YEAH BABY JARS OF SALTED CARAMEL! You betcha I bought a jar ($11)!

SO PURDY! Tiers of Clouds ($4.50) were too pretty to pass up and I had to get a strawberry cloud cos I heart pink. I’ve gone from an emo kid to a Barbie pink lover but hey I digress. The cloud is pretty awesome, way better than a normal slab of meringue with slightly gooey innards and flavoured with freeze dried strawberry.

Butterscotch Popcorn Ice Cream ($4.50) was sadly lacking in popcorn flavour but loved the cubes of butterscotch hidden thruout the ice cream.

There was a park around the corner that also happened to have these cute babushkas teehee

Of course we had to go to Luxbite (38 Toorak Road, South Yarra, Melbourne) to check out the macarons and grab a cake or two or three…

We needed a non sugar break so stepped into Soda Rock Diner (257 Toorak Rd, South Yarra, Melbourne) after being sucked into seeing the words cheesy fries. Sadly the cheesy fries and the tater tots were not as tasty as the root beer float but loved the retro vibe and would’ve loved to play with the mini jukebox on each table.

There was an arvo nap for me followed by dinner at Izakaya Den (114 Russell St, Melbourne), where we met up with Jacq and I managed to not take any photos thanks to my not so awesome migraine and desperate need for more sleep. But the food was delicious. Take my word for it. But have fun trying to find the entrance if you haven’t otherwise been before. And then somehow we decided we needed to hit Lord of the Fries opposite Flinders Station for some fries smothered in aioli garlic mayo…

And my favourite place in all of Melbourne is Walker’s Doughnuts ( 26/2 Elizabeth St, Melbourne) where the half pound chocolate eclair ($4.95) calls my name. That is half a pound of deliciousness my friends.

Dessert spread in the hotel oh yes good times.

They have deep fried mozzarella cheese sticks (which i missed out on). Plus Deep fried oreos and twinkies (though not as good as what i thought they’d be). It’s on High st in Prahran, closer to Chapel street side. Tram 6 will take you there :P
