Tourism NSW Food Trip with Dan Hong

5 August 2011, 10:23

OH HAI! So like, last week I went on a crazy hectic trip around Sydney as part of the Tourism NSW Youth Program Blogger Tour. If you follow me on twitter you would’ve seen a whole load of pics of food as I followed the #NSWtips tweets of the awesome chef Dan Hong who made me eat so freaking much that I was close to exploding!

Unless otherwise watermarked all pics were taken by the camera crew, Chris Grainger and Andrew Kaineder and we had a blast!

First up was some fresh sugar cane juice. It was refreshing and I would’ve loved to have had this at the end of all the eats lol next up was Kasone Sweets (Shop 4, 59-61 Park Road, Cabramatta) for 6 choices dessert, jerky and lols an avocado milkshake which was pretty filling man!

Then off to Redlea Chicken (57 John St, Cabramatta) for the best hot chips covered in delicious seasoning. Everyone thought it was funny that within 1 hour of starting this food trip I’m already carrying so much foods lol

A wander around led to a side trip to see some roast piggy action

Scored some custard puffs but sadly no pandan waffle

Hu Tieu Nam Vang noodle soup at Battambang Cambodian Restaurant (15/73-79 John St, Arcade)

Of course we had to stop by Thanh Binh (52 John St, Cabramatta) run by Angie Hong (Dan’s mother) for their famous Banh Hoi Chao Tom. Angie also has a second restaurant in Newtown but this one is the original!

Left Cabramatta to head to Fairfield

Hit La Paula (Unit 1, 9 Barbara Street, Fairfield) for some crazy cheesy empanadas and dulce de leche filled desserts

Tonkotsua Ramen from Gumshara (Eating World 25-29 Dixon St, Chinatown)

El Loco (64 Foveaux St, Surry Hills) for the crazy hotdogs covered in clouds of cheese

Shots at Mizuya where Dan managed to drop by for some tunes

Saw an absolutely massive crab at Golden Century Seafood Restaurant (393-399 Sussex St, Chinatown) and ate pipis and lobster

Last stop of the night was Chat Thai (20 Campbell St, Haymarket) for Par Tuuhng Go – deep fried donut sticks with pandan custard.

On Day 2 we hit Cafe Cre Asion (21 Alberta St, Surry Hills) for macarons. Breakfast of champions yo!

Yum cha at East Ocean (421-429 Sussex Street, Haymarket)

Aaaaaand last food item for the day! Guangxi Style roast pork bun at Spice Temple (10 Bligh St, Sydney). That’s all folks! Time to explode!

Travel and food costs were covered by Tourism NSW as part of their Youth Program Blogger Tour.
