Kingsleys Steak & Crabhouse, Woolloomooloo

5 September 2011, 06:43

Hai guys. My bad for not posting last week but well, shiz got all kinds of hectic and sleep was a necessity before I turned into a zombie (oh how I heart kimmitalk). Noods’ rellies were in town and we decided to hit up Kingsleys Steak & Crabhouse (The Wharf, Cowper Wharf Rd, Woolloomooloo).

Burrata Mozzarella Salad ($22.90) is a thing of beauty. It was here that I first tried the magical burrata cheese and I haven’t looked back since cos check it out yo its a delicious cheese parcel filled with creamy cheesy innards!

Steak Tartare ($19.90) is a fav of Noods’, when asked if we would like the tartare mixed or unmixed he will always choose unmixed because he likes playing with his food.

Oysters ($19.90/half dozen) with the Chili and Coriander dressing is perfect, the fresh briny oysters pairing brilliantly with the slightly spicy dressing.

Alaskan King Crab (200g/$21.90). Muahaha if you like eating huge pieces of sweet crab without the hassle of picking it painstakingly from the shell, then Alaskan King Crab is for you! I choo choo chooseee you!

200g Eye Fillet with Soft Shell Crab ($41.90 + bone marrow $7.90). The soft shell crab perched atop the steak is fried to a golden perfection and the steak a beautiful medium rare but as soon as I saw the words bone marrow I knew I would have trouble finishing my food so had chosen the smallest steak on the menu. The bone marrow is incredible, buttery and oh so rich, it is something heart attacks (and dreams) are made of.

The crackle on the Twice Cooked Berkshire Pork Belly ($28.90) was sadly not crisp but the magical pork flesh was tender and porkilicious. Is porkilicious a word?

Roast Cone Bay Barramundi ($32.90) was one gorgeous slab of fish with an amazingly crispy shard of skin that was fought over. I don’t remember what the green sauce was. But it was refreshing. Um.

Sides- Brussel Sprouts with Bacon ($8.90) and Kipflers, Spinach & Chorizo ($10.90). I was never made to eat brussel sprouts as a kid so I’ve never grown to detest it and have only recently eaten it and lols its just like a teeny tiny cabbage tho I guess the addition of bacon only makes it just so much tastier…

Mandarin Pannacotta ($13.50) is not what we had imagined, the creamy panna cotta sealed away at the bottom of the plate by a layer of bouncy mandarin jelly. The blackberry sorbet is refreshing and I take gleeful bites of the almond tuile, shattering pieces all over me. I am the world’s messiest eater.

Sticky Date and Walnut Pudding ($13.90) is a perfect finish to our meal, the pudding warm and heady with the scent of cinnamon. It is surprisingly light and the butterscotch sauce a perfect balance of sweetness and richness.

  8. Weird presentation of the panna cotta. Also, I don’t think blackberry sorbet is the right match for a mandarin dessert. I wouldn’t mind it after steak tartare, oysters and bone marrow, though.
