You know when you wake up late on the weekend and the last thing you want to do is think about cooking? I’m beyond ecstatic to have Barista and Cook as my new local soley because of this Bacon & Egg Milk Bun ($9.50). The bacon is always incredibly crispy and flavourful, the sunny side up fried egg is just begging to release its river of gooey yolk and there’s an amazing bbq chipotle chutney that ties everything together.
The Cured Salmon ($22) is the very definition of summer. Ribbons of silky smooth salmon drape around an heirloom carrot barigoule (braised in a tangy white wine broth) which provides a nice acidic punch. The salmon comes with a choice of salad and I opt for the broccolini with toasted almonds, peaches, caramelised garlic and splotches of creamy goats curd. That health factor!
I loved the ridiculously tasty bacon jam in the Grass Fed Cheese Burger ($19.50) but I’m not sure I rate this burger. It’s a perfectly tasty burger but I think I’ve become too used to the American cheeseburger and you all know how I feel about salad in burgers 😛 The chips are amazing though, with perfectly crisp edges and fluffy, pillowy innards.
The Grilled Mac ‘n’ Cheese Toastie ($12.50) is pretty insane. There’s a fat layer of creamy mac & cheese stuffed between two fluffy slices of bread that’s been heavily buttered and grilled to golden perfection. A tiny tub of house made relish attempts to cut through the richness but to be perfectly honest I would’ve loved a small salad with fresh pears or something? It’s perfect hangover food though 😛
I love the fitout at Barista & Cook, the soaring ceilings and the natural light just makes me feel so at ease. Staff are warm and lovely and there’s always the added bonus of watching for fluffy dogs to pat!
