last sunday me and noods took our parentals out to Rise (23 Craigend St, Darlinghurst) for the Omakase (degustation menu). it was me and noods’ 3rd time and the parentals 2nd time.
the father unit really enjoyed it last time, scoffing the food as soon as it got to the table but he really liked the whole concept of a degustation menu with different dishes to try and the mothership likes prettily presented food (lol guess this is why i am the way i am) noods’ mom also came along before her tastebuds gets zapped from the chemo and because shes never had a degustation menu either. so now bring on the food!
haha i lied me drink is first and i cant remember what its name was but it had lychee and vodka in it
Appetizer
Soup
Sashimi
Fresh market sashimi. the salmon was definitely the highlight for me- meltingly soft and sweet, the kingfish was firm and had an interestingly salty dipping sauce and the oyster was so fresh it felt aliiiiiiive
Seasonal plate
Tofu with marinated shiitake mushroom.
Egg flan with baby corn and red curry sauce. my favourite on this plate the egg flan had the soft consistency of tofu fa and the curry sauce made it so tasty almost like laksa
Chicken spring roll with ponzu dipping sauce. spicy sauce! eee burning
Pasta
Crispy paradise prawn with rice noodle ume and mentaiko vinaigrette. we were instructed to eat the prawn shell and head and all! i managed upto the eyes…
Main
Chicken coconut-fricassee with green mash and spicy spinach puree. when i saw this on the menu i was like dude ‘green mash’ couldnt they have made it sound nicer? but this was an interesting dish the chicken was soft soft soft and i liked the idea of the garnishings held together by a slice of chilli
Dessert
Honeydew melon mousse with watermelon granita. mmm the watermelon granita was so refreshing however i found the mousse a little too dense but the slice of dried mango was a nice touch

the rocks markets by moonlight returns!
well, its an annual thing and onli for the month of november so make sure to visit next week. some peoples from work had mentioned they manned a store and sold pancakes and ribs and i was curious about how busy it was at night and if there was any other food stalls around (because im greedy and will eat anything that looks interesting)
ppl. when we arrived that area was packed with people drinking their beer and singing along to this dude… erm think it was daryl braithwaite?
anyways moving on i located the pancakes on the rocks stall, found pinky, nelson, anu, helen, peter and monir and my plea of ‘hey guys lemme take a foto’ meant the boys hiding and helen randomly pointing at the sky lol
me pancake. well, noods’ pancake. im afraid ive eaten a lifetime of pancakes by now.
oooh gozleme mmm
the lowenbrau stall had giant hotdogs!
me hotdoggy. the dude before us had a bigger sausage like it was hanging off the hotdog bun! but no worries becos we were full like stomach bulging full but the sausage was tasty and a lil spicy altho i dont think im a fan of the sauerkraut and some drunk chick comes up to us and goes dudeee is that sauerkaut and leans over as if shes going to pick it off the hotdog…

me and noods walked from kinokuniya to eat city (its a looong way if youre lugging around 2.5kg of laptop) but my determination for the pate meant we complained and whined and bitched until we arrived to be greeted by our favourite waiter david!
Organic Chicken Liver Pate soo good. sooooo goood.
and oooh a menu change! me and noods like menu changes because we (ok maybe mostly noods) like to try new things. our first dish/mains was Eat City Chamomile Cured Salmon and it was fantastic. the first bite was a little strange as my tastebuds identified the taste of tea but couldnt match it with eating salmon but it was a great combination and very refreshing with the beetroot creme fraiche
dont remember the exact name for this and its not on the website but i think it was roasted pork fillets? i didnt think much at first until i had a mouthful of crackling. OH. MY. GOD. i dont think theres any other flavour that tastes anywhere as good as to how pork crackling tastes
and of course my Wood Roasted Wagyu Beef mmm thick slices of velvety soft wagyu atop a slightly salty potato gratin covered in a mushroom redwine jus

the good thing about starting work at 6.30am means a nice early finish at 3, enough time to drive home and shower and check email and catch a train to the ct to meet the boy for some dinner. however i get sidetracked easily and a lil detour from town hall saw me pass the base of this giant xmas at the qvb:
