the mothership was going to the supermarket and i asked her to buy me the new mother energy drink. shes so used to buying me v so she asked me to describe it. i happened to have a can of the old version of mother hiding in the fridge so i showed it to her saying its like this can, but black and its a fatter sized can. 1 hour later she comes back triumphant in the procurement of my new beloved energy drink saying she asked someone in the store for a “fat, black, mother” ahem *palm face*

a trip to malaysia is never complete without a visit to the local pasar malam which are the outdoors markets the locals visit every week to stock up on fresh produce and buy sweets and snacks and freshly cooked meals

i like seeing the different snacks being made and this one looked like how the oldskool traditional chinese medicine healing thing heh cept it made coconut logs filled with guala melaka (sugar)

noods’ favourite sweet at the pasar malam is this soft pancake that kinda has the texture of a crumpet, folded and filled with ground peanuts, corn and sugar

whereas my ‘pancake’ of choice is the crispy style with the same filling

YARM!

row of otak-otak – banana wrapped parcels of tasty fish that’s incredibly fragrant and so very moreish

colourful dragonfruit

mounds of fishies!

stacks of satay waiting to be grilled

buckets of multi-coloured neon drinks with not a soft drink in sight! i love the choice in malaysia there’s always coconut juice, soya bean milk, grass jelly, and usually ribena for some reason haha i really wanted my drink in a plastic bag just like old times but apparently everyones gone upmarket and they use cups now lol

tis good tis fun
malaysia part 7

malaysia is a predominantly muslim country and alot of the restaurants there do not serve pork. the boy and i had lasted about a week without pork until we found the bavarian bierhaus in the curve

beeeeeer! 0.5L paulaner beer (RM29)

crackling (RM9) heh a whole plate of crispy deep fried pork crackling! my heart skipped a couple of beats when i saw this side on the menu and then skipped a couple more beats about halfway thru the glorious fatty curls ohhh yeahhh that hits the spot

when i ordered the pork knuckle (RM52) the waiter started to leave thinking we were going to share it… hurhur nope no sharing for me! it was pretty big but sadly didnt measure up to lowenbraus pork knuckle. it was ok, just not spectacular with the crackling a little on the chewy side and the meat not as tender.

the boy had ordered the set lunch meal (RM34) which came with soup and a main. he couldnt figure out what flavour the soup was supposed to be but we figured it was most likely pumpkin because it was orangey…

noods’ mixed plate of sausages heh he said they all tasted the same lol

YARM!
