adriano zumbo’s 2010 winter collection macarons. This season’s theme is ‘Feeling the pressure expressing the colour’ Flavour, Simplicity, Warmth by Bartholemew Soarez.”

We interrupt your broadcasting to tell you that the fabulous adriano zumbo’s new winter collection is here! i arrived at 11am on saturday morning but sadly the new range of cakes had yet to arrive. This season’s theme is ‘Feeling the pressure expressing the colour’ Flavour, Simplicity, Warmth by Bartholemew Soarez.” Luckily the full range of macarons were there in all its rainbow coloured glory

Flavours of tastyness! BTW i’m extremely glad he’s spelt macaron WITH ONE O!

Macaron stackage. If i had to paint a room and had to collect colour paint swatches i would use macarons…

And one from up top. Some flavours were a bit hit and miss with me mainly because i have issues with olive, licorice and fennel. But i super loved the custard crunch macaron which had a layer of pop rocks! Snap crackle pop yo! My second fave was the peanut caramel which had a sprinkle of nuts on the top and a whole peanut hidden within a layer of gooey caramel. Another fave was the pumpkin orange risotto which had a similar texture to last seasons rice pudding macaron but not as er bit-y and with a citrusy hit.

And one last shot of macaron innards
Malaysia part 4, how much kaya toast can i eat

This post is for my besties who are travelling to Malaysia for 2.5weeks eating their way thru all the tasty eats that Malaysia has to offer. Gonna miss you guys! So anyways. Kaya toast aka Roti Bakar. This glorious snack is a staple in all kopitiams (coffee shops) in Malaysia. My mission this trip was to visit as many kopitiams as my cholesterol laden heart could handle to find my favourite kaya toast. Kaya is a spread made of eggs, sugar and coconut milk and flavored with pandan and no don’t even think of trying to bring it thru Australian customs haha the above kaya toast was from the Daily Express in the KLCC food court- Golden Toast RM2.20/AU$0.75. Surprisingly one of the best kaya toast ive had with a super thick layer of kaya and slabs of butter, nicely toasted and sandwiched with thick slices of white bread.

The good thing about restaurants in Malaysia is that they’re not fazed when someone whips out a camera haha blogging is so freaking huge in Asia i love it! Managed to stalk the kaya man doing his thing- toasting the bread old skool way over a grill, spreading a nice thick layer of kaya, topping with pre cut slices of butter and slicing in half to equal awesomeness.

Oriental Cravings (G359 1 Utama Shopping Center). Dude i have to spread my own kaya? Definitely not enough kaya in that teensy tiny pot although the butter was very generous and i loved the thick slices of bread. Teh ais RM4.90/AU$1.65 was sweet. Most drinks in Malaysia are super sweet. I’m not surprised diabetes is high in this country.

Old Town Coffee Shop (Lot 03-112, Berjaya Times Square) Kaya & Butter RM2.90/AU$0.95. The bread isn’t burnt it’s just.. brown.. super thin too which makes for one crunchy sandwich. Kaya was thinly spread but the toast didnt need a thick layer because the bread was so thin and the butter ratio was awesome. Noods ordered a random Polo bun which was nothing to write home about. It was bready and hardly any filling.

Pak Hailam Kopitiam (Lot C28, Concourse Floor, Sungai Wang Plaza) Kaya Butter Toast RM2.20/AU$0.75. Teehee the butter looks like teeth! Much easier to cut the butter in pieces than spreading it i guess. That crazy green drink is a lime sour plum and its hell sour but so freaking addictive. Pretty much all kopitiams (and starbucks) have free wifi woot!

Hometown Kopitiam (Lot 141, 1st Floor, Western Courtyard, The Curve) Roti Bakar RM2.20/AU$0.75. The Curve isn’t that great a shopping centre but there are heaps
of restaurants and cafes and this kopitiam is in a prime position under cover and with outdoor seating. Order at the counter, hand over your cash and take your drinks and they’ll bring your food to you. This kaya toast was pretty good and made my top 3 with the thick layer of kaya and sticks of butter. Had to order a barley drink because i needed a break from all the caffeineated coffee tea drinks and sour lemon drinks id been having with my toast haha

Station Kopitiam (Lot 04-92 & 93, 4th Floor, Berjaya Times Square). This kaya toast was so average i didnt even bother writing down the price because it was pretty terrible. Oh i pulled it apart before taking a photo my bad but yeah it was super dry and only the very center had butter and the kaya wasn’t very fragrant

Killiney Kopitiam (Lot G(E) 011-A External Ground Floor, Mid Valley Megamall) Butter Kaya Toast RM2.50/AU$0.85. i started getting a lil sick of eating so much kaya toast haha but this toast was decent, just enough kaya and butter and another lime ais to wash it down

Ok this isn’t kaya toast but this is what happens when you ask for toast with eggs- you get french toast HAHAHA can’t blame them really..
Malaysia Part 3, 1m giant roti and a night market
DUDEEEE it’s a 1 meter roti! This thing is ginormous! And it’s alllll mine! Lol […]

DUDEEEE it’s a 1 meter roti! This thing is ginormous! And it’s alllll mine! Lol nah i shared it but oh how tempting it would be…

Roti man doing his thing. It’s quite mesmerising watching him start with a small ball of dough and then stretching and pulling and eventually flinging it in the air. When the dough is stretched until it’s paper thin, it’s laid on the grill to cook before being whipped off and rolled into a cone where sugar, condensed milk and or honey gets drizzled on as the roti hardens and um crispifies.

So tall it needs 3 plates to lie down on.

Cone of silence! Well ok not really cos once you start breaking off pieces you won’t be able to stop crunching on the light super crispy roti and licking the river of condensed milk mmm river of sweetness

Kayu Nasi Kandar ftw!

Made it just in time to wander thru the bi-monthly pasar malam (night market) in SS2. Stall upon stall of fresh fruit and veg, meat, spices, snacks, dvds and jewellery

Lok lok truck! Lok lok is kinda like steamboat where you dunk sticks skewered with meats, veg, fishballs etc into boiling water and then dip into chilli, peanut or sweet sauce. But you dont drink the soup and definitely don’t double dunk!

Packets of spices all bagged up and ready to go

i <3 how in Malaysia you see fabulous grand buildings like the KLCC towers

And then drive a bit more and you’ll see countryside with towering mountains

Or see shopping centers with a giant lion

And where free wifi at starbucks makes everyone happy 😀
Malaysia '10 part 2, canton-i @ 1 utama

HAI. After touching down in good ol KLIA we stopped for a bite to eat at a random food stall followed by my eyes lighting up at a cart filled with the gloriousness that are mangosteens!

Seriously dudes 2kg of mangosteens for RM9 (AU$3) is just too delicious to pass up! Twist the bottom half away to reveal the pure white fruit innards.

Checked into One World Hotel (first avenue, bandar utama city centre, petaling jaya) where my awesome cuz Alan and Jess had snuck in earlier to pretty up the room…

Rose petal filled bath tub! So preetty! Though to be honest having a bath with stuff sticking to you was an odd feeling

Brunch time at Canton-i (G208 1 Utama) where birdcages line the ceiling of a room so full of pink it feels like a tea party

Steamed Piggy Bun (RM7.80/AU$2.60) Oh yes i was drawn to the clever advertising of these super cute piggy buns filled with red bean paste that was smooth and not overly sweet. i took much delight in sadistically eating the ears first.

XO Carrot Cake (RM12/AU$4). No, it’s not a cake made out of carrot. Also known as chai tao kway it is made of rice flour and white daikon and man was this addictive! Golden nuggets fried to perfection with a charred edge and topped with a scattering of eggs, spring onion, chilli and bean sprouts.

Char Siew/Siew Yoke Wantan Mee (RM18/AU$6). Serving sizes were a bit on the small side but yes food in the malls will never be cheap compared to the hawker stalls. The char siew was fantastic with a sweet caramelized edge encasing soft tender meat

Roast Goose Wantan Mee (RM18/AU$6). The goose meat was firmer as compared to duck with a crisp skin that was positively gleaming.

Layer Cake (RM6/AU$2). Also known as ma lai koh the steamed layer cake has alternating layers of sponge, sweet custard and salted egg yolk. It is an interesting taste combo but is something the mothership and i will eat slowly layer by layer

Steamed Golden Egg Yolk Custard Bun (RM$6/AU$2). These psychedelic purple buns hide a river of molten gold. Not knowing the innards were gonna be liquid and not custard i took a huge bite out of a bun before realising oh crap it’s so freaking hot ohgawd haha

Egg Tart (RM5/AU$1.65). Not the best egg tarts i’ve had but the pastry was flaky and the egg custard smooth. Kept lol’ing at the random tomato and parsley garnish.

Yun Yong- a mix of coffee and tea oh yes this crazy mixed drink is everywhere in Malaysia and i normally have it with ice but i really wanted it in this cute mug haha
