Named after the French word for ‘friends’, Bar Copains is Sydney’s newest wine bar and with Morgan McGlone from Belles and Nathan Sasi previously from Nomad in the kitchen vou just know the food will be amazing.
We start off with the perfect drinking snack, whipped cod’s roe with salty potato chips and then choux buns filled with a delicious comte custard and a touch of mustard.
The pigs head fritti is golden and crunchy on the outside, fatty and juicy on the inside, with the briny pickles providing relief from the richness.
The chicken liver parfait is incredibly smooth and creamy and we slather inch thick onto the provided brioche slices.
Other great snacks were the King George Whiting sandwich and the anchovy on puff pastry with olive and caramelised onion.
I absolutely loved the Casarece with a bright tasting cavolo nero pesto and beautifully creamy stracciatella cheese and the BBQ 2GR Wagyu Flank steak with house made condiments was a perfect medium rare. We had to get the uber crispy potato scallops with sour cream and chives and for dessert we shared an amaro crème caramel.

Things are changing on Eddy Avenue at Central Station! The precinct is getting a whole bunch of new tenants from candle makers, florists and even a radio station but what I was most excited for is City Oltra, a pizza and gin bar with Drew Huston, previously from Dimitri’s.
Pizza is available by the slice but we were hungry and decided to order the whole 16inch pizza. The Sweethearts had artichoke puree, artichoke hearts, gorgonzola and honey and half the Shroomie with mushrooms, roast garlic cream, cheese, chilli, lemon and herbs.
Check out this upskirt shot, the pizza was awesome, with the perfect crust and just the right amount of toppings.
Aaand because I was feeling ambitious I had also ordered the square pizza with half the Salami Squared which had salami, caramelised onions, ricotta, chilli and red sauce and half the Potato Squared with house made sausage, potato, ricotta, cheese and chives. I absolutely loved the crust on these pizzas, especially the cheese edges which had bubbled over and became crispy cheesy lace perfection.
