You know when you go to a restaurant and you think man the snacks part of the menu were amazing I wish I could just order those for an entire meal? Well Longshore in Chippendale have a snacks flight for only $80pp and it was incredible. Starting off with the Abrolhos Island Scallop with a super refreshing mandarin kosho with set my taste buds alight.
My fave of the lighter snacks was this Black tiger prawn tart with finger lime and perilla leaf. Then the Jervis Bay pickled mussel and also loved the Strawberries & olive play on the gilda.
Before we heading onto the last half of the snacks I had ordered from the ala carte menu the Steamed yabbies with the most intense shellfish bisque. This might be my next fixation because it’s been 3 days and I still can’t stop talking about how amazing this dish was.
The Longshore rye bread was beautiful with the coastal butter but even better when dipped into the shellfish bisque.
Onto the steamed oysters with truffle brown butter and then the grilled Clarence River octopus skewer was perfectly tender, the smoked soy glaze matched perfectly.
The Port Lincoln Green lip abalone party pie w mushroom ketchup is a beauty I loved the flakiness of the pastry. Finally the glazed Margra lamb rib was unctuously tender with a good amount of fat to meat ratio

On the hunt for more sandwiches I made the trek to Self Raised in South Sydney’s Carlton where a queue was already forming at 10.30. The menu is short and sweet with 2 breakfast sandwiches and 5 sandwiches available for lunch and all up I waited 20 mins
I… may have overordered but I had wanted to try everything! I had made it in time before the 11am deadline and scored the egg, cheese and hashbrown breakfast sandwich and added the sausage patty. And then my new favourite sandwich in Sydney is the smoked beef with pickles, cheese, mustard and secret sauce. I thought the meat was a generous portion and I loved the combination of melty cheese with the briny pickles and toasted bread.
Next is the tuna with lettuce and pickles and I added chilli all housed on beautifully soft and fluffy white bread.
The poached chicken is a surprise winner with cucumber, cheddar, crisp lettuce and just the right amount of herb mayo.
Lastly was the hoagie with mortadella, salami and beef, this was fine but probably not something I’d order again.
Onto the desserts! I spied a cream filled donut in the pastry cabinet and even though it’s called a Boston cream donut this doesn’t have the chocolate glaze or a custard filling. It’s a very good donut though, super light and fluffy with the perfect amount of filling.
I also got the crueller which was airy and light and lastly the custard tart is a beauty, the pastry shell is delicate and the custard filling perfectly smooth.
Hansang, Haymarket
Hansang has finally opened in the CBD and I am absolutely in love with the soups! Upon entry there’s giant vats filled with 72 hour beef bone broth bubbling away. After you’ve ordered, a whole parade of banchan arrives and of course some soju.

The steamed egg arrives jiggly and steaming hot, eating it is literally like taking a bite of a cloud.
A must order is the ox tail soup, it’s hearty and oh so comforting and the meat is incredibly tender. We also ordered the spicy kimchi soft tofu soup which was perfect for this weather and the spicy marinated crab was tasty but not very meaty.
We also ordered the seafood pancake which had beautifully crispy edges and lastly the soy fried chicken which had the perfect batter, all crispy with nubbly edges and incredibly juicy meat

It’s been about 10 years since I last ate at The Boiling Crab in LA and I was so excited to hear a restaurant has just opened in Sydney’s Chinatown. First pick your seafood of choice and any add on’s, then choose your flavour of sauce and then your spice level, warning we did medium for most of the bags and it’s HELLA hot!
First to arrive was the All in one bag which comes with prawns, crawfish, baby octopus, mussels and clams. Next the crawfish with Rajun Cajun sauce and I added on some sweet corn. My favourite was the scampi in creamy garlic sauce, the scampi were massive and super sweet. The abalone is also a must order, they were so plump and tender and good value at $38 for 8 pieces.
We also ordered the snow crab legs which had a special of buy 1 and get 2 extra clusters for free and added on a serve of okra, the legs were so meaty! And finally we ordered a Boston lobster which was just so satisfying to get the meat and dunk in all the sauce.
