Our favourite cozy date night spot is By Sang in Zetland because of their use of the freshest produce and beautifully balanced flavours.

The nigiri are a must order, my faves are always the salmon belly, tuna and the scampi where the heads are deep fried to a satisfying cronch. The unagi and of course the fluffy tamago.

The Petunia ocean trout ceviche is a must order with cubes of cucumber, a hit of zingy wasabi cream and freshly grated horseradish and irresistible crunch of hand cut potato chips.

The skin on the 7 day aged duck breast has been rendered to a glorious crisp and the juicy meat is glazed with a sweet and savoury teriyaki sauce.

The Maruya Station full blood wagyu steak flank has a melt in the mouth richness, the flavour intensified by the konbu butter jus and brightened by the vibrant chimmichurri served on the side.

If there’s one meal you should have in Bali it’s eating seafood at Menega Cafe on Jimbaran Beach at sunset.

It’s a little frenetic in the beginning as you have to make your way past the seafood display and into the restaurant to get your table and then you have to return to the front with your table number and decide how much seafood you want and how you want it cooked.

I started off strong with a fresh coconut and a Bintang radler and the food arrived soon after. First up were half a kilo of these grilled prawns that were super smoky and so juicy, then the grilled clams with the most insanely delicious sticky sauce.

Even though I was solo dining I also added a steamed crab with an out of this world garlic butter sauce, the crab was incredible and so meaty.

I also got a serving of rice and some kangung water spinach and all up my bill was 63AUD. Highly recommended but definitely arrive early for the best sunset views in Bali.

I finally made it to Manseok in Lidcombe which has Korean pocha street food vibes with sheets of the classic red plastic tents dividing the room.

We were here for the sizzling grilled beef intestines and let me tell you the serving sizes here are super generous. Give the intestines an occasional stir but wait until they become crispy for that perfectly unctuous fatty bite. The intestines have been cleaned throughly so there’s no funky flavour and the enoki mushrooms and kimchi fried rice helps cut through the richness.

We also couldn’t resist ordering the stir-fry spicy chicken, which arrived bubbling hot at the table, surrounded by a golden ring of molten corn cheese that stretched with every bite- sweet, creamy, and the perfect balance to the fiery heat of the chicken.

Step into Yakitori Yurippi in Crows Nest and you’ll find the warmth of a traditional Japanese izakaya, where yakitori is the star of the menu.

Mark how many of each yakitori you’d like on the order sheet, pour yourself some sake, and before long the food will start arriving.

First to arrive are the burdock root chips which are the perfect drinking snack followed by tsukune chicken meatballs with 63 degree egg.

Grilled corn, okra and unagi are next. Then the grilled scallops with konbu butter and juicy king mushrooms.

My fave of the lot was the buttery miso cod, and next faves were the chicken skin which was a crispy textural delight, then the tender Wagyu short rib and fatty chicken tail.

Dessert was a scoop of refreshing yuzu sorbet and a few more drinks upstairs in the sports bar.
