If you love a bit of theatrics with your dinner then you’ve got to visit Restaurant Moon in Darlinghurst for a Thai European fusion degustation.
The fun kicks off with the house smoked ocean trout pate with duck fat that’s presented as a candle and mixed at the table.
The cornfed chicken tartlet with crispy Chinese broccoli, capers and anchovy aioli is good but made much better with the addition of sea urchin for an extra $14
Steamed egg custard with an intense Thai tom kha broth is smooth and has just the right amount of jiggle.
Then there was the scallops with a chilled spicy tom yum soup.
We added on the king prawns which was beautifully grilled over charcoal with an incredible Thai chilli relish.
And finally the Jacks Creek black angus striploin steak arrives and we are in awe at how generous the serving size is. The steak is tender and fatty which I loved buyut a bit overkill with the café de Paris butter and bone marrow.
The dessert is an incredibly presented garden of apple, ginger, chocolate, vanilla, charcoal and mixed berry

Birthday month has kicked off and what better way to celebrate than eating French food at Whalebridge in Circular Quay and watching the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge light up for Vivid.
We started with the most deliciously smooth and rich duck liver parfait on slices of brioche. Followed by the incredible double baked 18month Comte cheese soufflé and the soul warming French onion soup with Gruyère croutons.
For mains we ordered the duck confit with Toulouse sausage and lentils but the highlight was definitely the perfectly cooked Angus sirloin steak frites with cafe de Paris butter and golden fries.
We finished up with a chocolate tart and went to see a bit more of Vivid.

If you’re after a great wine bar with delicious snacks then Continental Deli in Newtown is my fave place to visit.
The roast beef French dip sandwich with an intense beef jus is incredible and only available at lunch.
For our charcuterie plate we ordered Pino’s Truffled Salami and some prosciutto and for our cheese plate Brillat Savarin, Oak blue and the Maffra Cloth-Ashed cheddar.
I couldn’t resist the Nardin white anchovies and a must order is the steak tartare with the best waffle cut potato chips.
For dessert we’ve gone the tinned options with the Can-acotta, a rosemary infused Panna Cotta and of course the flan in a can.
To finish we end with an ice cold mar-tinny.

With winter fast approaching I’m craving soul comforting foods. Cô Ba in Marrickville serves Vietnamese street food and one of my favourite dishes to eat is their Bò Né, which is sizzling steak and egg. It comes with a crusty baguette that’s perfect for dipping into the egg and soaking up all the sauce.
There’s a pretty generous amount of steak and I loved the dollop of pate. The standard Bò Né is only $20 but treat yourself and add on cheese and sausage for another $4.

Just opposite the Bunnings in Alexandria is the new home for a bunch of food trucks which have set up shop for the next few months.
We started off at East Blue Seafood with a lobster roll with chips, the brioche roll holds a good amount of garlic butter lobster and comes with purple cabbage and apple slaw.
Next was 305 Shack for a cubano, this sandwich was not quite what I was expecting in that the pork were pieces and not slices but it was tasty.
I’d been looking forward to Phat Asian Fusion and their ramyun burger is insane. There’s super crispy and juicy chicken pieces and shin ramen with melted cheese and seaweed. We also got the mochi balls which were so light and perfect with the peanut dipping sauce.
And last stop was at The Ramen Kitchen for a bowl of tonkotsu ramen. This ramen was so good in the torrential rain, the egg had the perfect gooey centre, the charsiy was fatty and tender and the noodles had the perfect bite.
The food trucks aren’t organised by anyone so check their ig’s for when theyre open.
