If you’re after a carb fest, Dookie has got you covered with all you can eat tteokbokki for $38 per person. There’s a DIY sauce station with suggested recipe combos and we’ve gone for 2 ladies of the creamy sauce with 1 ladle of the Busan spicy sauce.
And then onto the tteokbokki station where there’s rice cakes of all shapes and sizes, my fave were the cheese stuffed and also the alphabet shaped for the lols. Grab your meat, veg, noodles and anything else you want and away you go! You can also add a cheese fondue grill on top of your pot for an extra $10.
There’s also a fishcake station, ready to eat foods like sushi, noodles and fried chicken and also an entire wall of ramyeon in case you still haven’t had enough food. Dessert and soft drinks are also included.

I love a Sunday roast and The Rocks Brewery in Alexandria now have 4 on the menu!
The roast porchetta is awesome, the pork is super juicy and it had the perfect crackle. It comes with a super cheesy cauliflower gratin, honey roasted carrots, peas and gravy and of course a Yorkshire pudding.
We also had to get the roast lamb which had a super generous amount of meat and was beautifully tender and comes with the same sides.

If you’re looking for cozy date night ideas, I highly rate Ante in Newtown with a constantly changing menu and over 60 different types of sake.
The fried potato mochi with everything bagel sprinkles is a textural delight.
The roasted Jerusalem artichoke is beautifully tender and I loved the crunch of the walnuts with the finely shaved Comte.
The tagliatelle with fermented shiitake mushrooms is saucy and rich and hits all the umami checkboxes and the casarecce has a beautiful deep prawn flavour with a smack of heat from the kanzuri fermented chilli.
We ordered both of the desserts, the mandarin granita is incredibly refreshing and the warm sticky date pudding is drenched in a mirin caramel with a lovely yoghurt sorbet.

It feels like everyone’s visiting Japan lately so to make myself less sad I visited Goryon-san in Surry Hills, an izakaya serving yakitori.
We started off with grilled Hokkaido jumbo scallops with the most delicious konbu butter and a spicy potato salad.
We ordered a whole bunch of skewers from chicken skin with beautifully charred edges, Bangalow pork belly and Wagyu beef.
The tender chicken thigh with shallot was a highlight, as were the scallops wrapped in bacon with an anchovy butter. The prawn and pork belly was ok but I absolutely loved the quail eggs with pork belly.
Onto the wagyu sukiyaki, beef tongue and the week’s special of Miyazaki A5 Wagyu sirloin was incredible buuuuut was $35 for the skewer.
We also ordered the salt & soy corn and the brown mushrooms with ponzu and butter.
The yuzu miso marinated black cod was cooked so perfectly and went so well with the roasted leeks.
And finally the soul warming Hakata Taki Nabe, a rich tonkotsu soup that has been stewed for 3 days and 3 nights and is filled with noodles, gyoza and cabbage.

A quick weekend trip down to Melbourne saw me finally visiting The Roe, a sea urchin focused restaurant with a pretty hectic fitout. We start off with complimentary sea urchin kombucha and then the sea urchin dumplings arrive. The dumplings have a great thin skin though cooked sea urchin doesn’t really taste like much.
The signature sea urchin chawanmushi is a must order though, it’s silky, smooth and intensely flavorful with the sea urchin.
I was so glad I preordered The Roe’s Family Mini Don set, the bowls of rice are piled with salmon roe, Bluefin tuna, spicy salmon, surf clams, grilled unagi and tempura prawns. Also who doesn’t love the wow factor of dry ice? The presentation is just immaculate and everything tasted fresh and delicious.
We were feeling ambitious and thought we might as well order more sea urchin so ordered the Sea Urchin Kingdom which happened to have a 10% discount that day. The platter is impressive and comes with half a kilo of 10A grade of sea urchin and salmon roe. Scoop a bit of everything onto the crisp seaweed sheets and prepare to have your mind blown. This was definitely an incredible experience if you love sea urchin.
