Brekkie at Kazbah, Top Ryde
Kazbah (La Piazza, Top Ryde City Shopping Centre, Cnr Devlin St & Blaxland Rd, Ryde) is a hell of a lot closer to our hood than the flagship Balmain restaurant. French toast, lamb mince tagine, halloumi
HAI! Yes I draw like a 5 year old, mock me as you will… The boy and I were in need of breakfast sustenance and since they opened in Jan, I’ve been super keen to visit Kazbah (La Piazza, Top Ryde City Shopping Centre, Cnr Devlin St & Blaxland Rd, Ryde) which is a hell of a lot closer to our hood than the flagship Balmain restaurant. The layout is definitely more spacious, with tables spilling out into the Piazza and super cheerful staff. Paper tablecloths and crayons provided much entertainment and dammit Noods that was a burger I drew not a muffin!
My sexy french toast came topped with several rashers of bacon, glazed baby figs, dollops of double cream and lashings of apple cinnamon syrup ($18). I thought I’d have issues with my savouries and sweet mixing but it was alllll good. The bread for the french toast was like a giant slab of egg goodness, just soaking up some rays of deliciousness from the caramelised figs and nubbins of crispy bacon bits which I then drowned in the syrup.
Noods had chosen the lamb mince breakfast tagine which came with spinach, roast capsicum, roast tomato, caramelised onion, feta, eggs, and a side of turkish toast and lebanese bread ($18.50). It may look small but oh boy was it filling; though I prefer the vego breakfast tagine which has glorious roast pumpkin pieces.
And because we love halloumi we ordered a side dish ($3.90) naww so cute and um small. But hey, tasty halloumi! Hope you guys have an awesome weekend!
Criniti’s, Darling Harbour
Crinitis (Shop 461, Level 2 Harbourside Shopping Centre, Darling Harbour) LOOK AT ALL THAT BEEEEEEER! Oh yes totes worth the capital letters no? It was Jacq’s b’day and what better way to celebrate than with lots and lots of beer and a meter long pizza?!
OH HAI! LOOK AT ALL THAT BEEEEEEER! Oh yes totes worth the capital letters no? It was Jacq’s b’day and what better way to celebrate than with lots and lots of beer??? We hungry humans had scored free beer and entrees at Criniti’s (Shop 461, Level 2 Harbourside Shopping Centre, Darling Harbour) and to kick start our night we ordered the 3L table keg ($69.90) of Peroni (tho you can choose any of their tap beer) mmm beer and ooh novelty!
Me and Richard were concentrating so very hard
Knowing we were about to ingest a whole lotta pizza we decided to share an entree of Insalata Caprese ($26.90) aka the magical burratta, I WANTS YOUR BABIES! The mozzarella ball innards weren’t uber oozy but was still delish and creamy and paired perfectly with the ripe tomatoes doused in olive oil, pepper, basil and oregano. Next time I ain’t sharing, Helen!
BEHOLD! Now THIS my friends is the legendary 1 metre pizza! They also come in normal ‘traditional’ sizes and also a half meter size; with the one-metre pizza you can get up to 3 toppings but prices range from $80-$90 depending on toppings.
The pizza oh how it mocks! Never will you finish me! But we did! Perfect pizza base with even amounts of cheese and not super overloaded with toppings. And we were oh so full until we saw the dessert menu…
Happy Birthday Jacq! Ooh sparklers 😀
We cannot, of course, go past the Nutella pizza ($20.90), with crisp, light pastry topped with rivers of molten Nutella ooh baby
Sadly the Apple Crumble pizza ($21.90) was lacking in crumble but by then we were all pizza’d out and ended up scavenging for apple pieces for some form of greenery of the night.
We stumble away for some more drinkies and some happy fuzzy memories of dancing the night away [like a g6 like a g6]. Happy birthday Jacq!

Super giant platter of Lobster with Braised Ginger & Shallots is attacked and the e-mein noodles demolished
Deep Fried Taro Duck is an interesting combination of texture, crunchy outer breaded layer, smooshy taro middle layer and then tender duck meat on the bottom.

Taste of Sydney 2011
Taste of Sydney has begun! Get yourself to Centennial Park 2nite and this weekend and be prepared to eat up a storm cos there are some freaking delicious food to be eaten and just as equally delicious chefs to stalk
OH HAI! It’s Friday! And the Taste of Sydney has begun! Get yourself to Centennial Park 2nite and this weekend and be prepared to eat up a storm cos there are some freaking delicious food to be eaten and just as equally delicious chefs to stalk 😛
The free flow of Pimms and champers in the HSBC vip tent (thanks Stellar Concepts!) may have impaired my ability to take photos of food in low light. That, and you know, my general co-ordination. Assiette’s Crispy Pork Belly, ($12/crowns) was a highlight for me with a generous serve of super tender porky with some crisp shards of crackle. L’etoile’s French country style pate ($10/crowns) had me swooning along with half the population crowding around the stall for glimpses of the smooth Manu
But it was Four in Hand’s Snickers ($8/crowns) that I was waiting for all night. A giant scoop of ice cream with a gooey caramel sauce and crunchy praline chunks oh baby can this dessert be any more awesome
(Wow can this blurry photo be more blurry). Victor Churchill’s creme brulee ($8) brought us to our knees with super smooth custardy innards flecked heavily with vanilla bean and protected by a thick layer of caramelised sugar deliciousness.
Hope you guys have an awesome weekend and hey look the awesome Jennifer from Life is like a cupcake did a lovely review of Chocolatesuze on her radio segment Best of the Blogs on Hope103.2FM!
Super Easy Cheese Muffins
This super easy cheese muffin recipe is awesome and freaking quick to make for those times when unexpected guests drop by. Or you know, when you get the munchies. Tasty cheese, romano and a hit of pepper.
So I thought it was time to do something savoury for my “Super Easy” recipes hehe so in case you don’t know but I heart cheese. Brie, mozzarella, camembert, ricotta, mascarpone, parmesan, cheddar, feta, halloumi, cream cheese, gruyere, jarlsberg, swiss, paneer mmm I’m still working my way into appreciating blue cheeses but hey give me time 😛 I used to hate cheese when I was a kid, I could never understand the appeal of those weird pyramids from the happy cow cheese or those mini wheels of cheeses in the bright red wax. But then one day in primary school, my mum (HI MUM!) handed me a toasted cheese sandwich and the rest is history.
This cheese muffin recipe is awesome and super quick to make. I based it on the CSR recipe but added romano cheese and some black pepper. If I was one of those people with a well stocked spice rack I would’ve added cayene pepper. But I’m not so I didn’t but hey knock yourself out and give em a try!
Ingredients:
2 cups plain flour
4 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
¼ cup oil
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 ¼ cups milk
1 cup grated tasty cheese
½ cup grated romano cheese (or parmesan)
1 Tbsp ground black pepper
Pre heat oven to 180C. Whack everything in a bowl. See my egg? Beat it before adding!
Stir ingredients until combined. If the mixture seems too dry add a bit more milk until mixture is stir-able but not so much that it’ll be like cupcake batter. Make sure there’s no flour pockets but don’t over stir too much or the muffins will be tough and chewy.
Use an ice cream scoop to portion out your muffins
Bake for about 15 – 20 minutes until golden brown. Cool muffins on a wire rack.
Why hello come here often? These babies are sexy right outta the oven and made even more sexier with a dab of butter. Cos butter makes everything sexy. Nuke them in the microwave for about 5 sec if you can resist not eating them straight away. And then add the butter. Cos it’s sexy.
