Happy Easter!
Have a safe and awesome Easter and hope you all eat lots and lots of chocolate 😀
Hey guys! I’m battling a cold at the moment so a quick post from me today but woohoo who’s excited about the Easter long weekend! Anyone got exciting plans? I foresee myself visiting several supermarkets and/or department stores and hitting the candy aisle to grab some discounted chocolate. Because for the first time it seems I have oddly not overindulged in my favourite food eating holiday and have been sadly lacking in chocolate consumption. I was all set to bake something super chocolatey for a post but then got smashed with this cold. Bleh. Anywhos not too sure how the above carton of eggs happened but the boy is crazy and I figure well, these are our nutty household’s temporary alternative to Easter Eggs hehe just be sure to use a non toxic marker! Have a safe and awesome Easter and hope you all eat lots and lots of chocolate 😀
District Dining, Surry Hills- closed
District Dining (17 Randle St, Surry Hills). Crispy Quail Eggs that have a river of happiness that is glorious egg yolk innards. Steak tartare, Chicken liver parfait, Mango Eton Mess.

Edit: CLOSED This my friends, is the picture of success. It’s the boy, TAKING A PHOTO OF HIS BEER. Now, I figure it’s only a matter of time before he starts taking photos of food right? And maybe Instagramming (heh add me: chocolatesuze). Though if he hashtags his photos I would have to unfollow because hashtags are the devil haha. So anyways we were celebrating the beginnings of my new job and just down the street from work was District Dining (17 Randle St, Surry Hills) where a meal full of deliciousness awaits.

A pot of Crispy Pig’s Ears ($10) arrives on a chopping board with a plastic tray holding Crispy Quail Eggs ($14) which brings us to our first world problem of what to eat first? I can’t help but coo over the tiny eggs sitting snuggly in their tray and so, not wanting to disturb them just yet, I grab some of the pig’s ears which are ridiculously moreish. They would make the perfect bar snack being salty and so crispy that it shatters upon coming into contact with my carnivore sharp teeth. And then egg time!

Oh how it oozes! Biting into the teensy tiny crispy breaded eggs and behold! The river of happiness that is glorious egg yolk innards! Oh and the tarragon mayonaise? Insane. Definitely not a fork and knife meal so use your hands and swipe away! Also, notice how Noods is sneakily reaching for the last egg? Tch.

Kingfish, Wasabi Pannacotta, Quinoa, Ponzu. I was suckered into ordering the kingfish because I wanted to see exactly how wasabi the pannacotta would be but instead it was more like dabs of wasabi flavoured cream. The slices of kingfish were uber fresh, lightly seared on the outside and combined well with the crunch of the quinoa. Keeeenwahhh.

Noods has zeroed in on the Steak Tartare, Aioli, Fries, Sourdough ($22), his one and only I-must-order item. He loves it and demolishes the board with such ease that I only just barely get time to taste a bit of the well seasoned, freshly minced steak. The fries are golden and perfect with the aioli. Winner.

Aaand my must-order is the Chicken Liver Parfait, Port Jelly, Red Grapes ($20). The parfait is creamy and smooth and the jar contains way more parfait than bread provided so was slathered inch thick mmm I do heart parfait! Or is that, I do liver my parfait… /lame joke

Surprisingly full but unable to resist dessert we decided to share a dessert of Mango Eton Mess ($14). Hiding under the sweet meringue pieces were mango chunks that were deliciously ripe, a taunt that the fruit had had a better summer than Sydney did this year. A scoop of refreshing mango sorbet sits proudly atop the pile and shards of house made honeycomb are foraged and fought over.

I definitely have to return to District Dining to try the rest of the menu, especially to try the crispy school prawns preferably with someone who isn’t allergic to prawns 😛
