This winter feels like it will never end so I’ve been soothing my soul with many visits to Jiho in Haymarket, a restaurant franchise from Korea specialising in samgyetang ginseng soups.
The rotisserie chickens out front make for a mesmerising display as you queue for a table. The juicy spatchcocks are served splayed flat on crispy scorched rice, you can get the original but my money is on the corn cheese for that beautiful cheese pull.
What keeps bringing back is the samgyetang, where it’s a one bowl per person situation and trust me you won’t want to share. The spatchcock is so tender the meat literally falls off the bone and the glutinous rice stuffed inside gradually thickens the soup making for the most satisfying meal.
There’s also the ginseng chicken porridge made with deboned chicken which is also super hearty but seriously order the samgyetang.

Fabbrica has recently opened a few new locations around Sydney and I really love the Darlinghurst restaurant with a bright sunny space out back.
The Wagyu beef tartare with a cured yolk is a beauty and nicely balanced.
We decide to share the cacio e pepe which is tasty but could use a bit more cheese cos you know, you can never have too much cheese and also the mafaldine with plump juicy prawns and had a bit of a kick from the nduja.
The hazelnut tiramisu is a must order to end the meal, it’s beautifully rich and creamy and the hazelnut is a nice change from the standard tiramisu’s everywhere.

Did everyone else binge watch the final season of Squid Game? Of course no surprises that there’d be a heap of promos everywhere and Squid Pocha in Haymarket is the place to be especially with the red light green light soju game.
The rose tteokbokki is my fave in Syd, it’s absolutely massive and so creamy and saucy
The kimchi pancake with cheese is also a must solely for this epic cheesy stretch.
We ordered the fried chicken platter with 4 flavours, the snow cheese being my fave of the lot.
This is not an ad but for the next week you can challenge the Squid Game frontman in scissors, paper, rock to win a limited edition shot glass.
Back to the food, the fluffy steamed eggs is perfection and corn cheese is always a winner.
