Mamak, Haymarket
mamak (15 Goulburn St, Haymarket Chinatown). home of the fabulous roti and awesome roti tissue
mamak. the roti world mourned the 3 weeks it took mamak (15 Goulburn St, Haymarket Chinatown) to close for renovations. and so some quick msgs on twitter found helen, simon and i arriving bright and earli to avoid the queues. this photo was taken when we left haha i hate queues
fly my pretty fly!
teh tarik (sweet tea), teh halia (teh tarik + ginger) and cham (coffee + tea) ($3.50)
roti + 2 curry dips ($5). fluffy flaky and oh so good. i could probably eat 3.
lamb murtabak- filled with spicy meat, cabbage, eggs and onions ($10.50). i wasnt a fan of the murtabak which was surprisingly super eggy with not much meat..
nasi lemak ($7.50) + curry fish ($3) + sambal prawn ($4)
ayam goreng- malaysian-style fried chicken ($12). the ayam goreng arrives in a crazy neon orange shade and after a pause we dive in. the chicken legs are sadly a tad dry but helen declares the chicken thigh nice and juicy
kangkung- stir-fried water spinach with chillies and shrimp paste ($13).
dessert time! roti kaya- filled with a traditional spread made from pandan and coconut ($7.50) i had asked for extra kaya but i dont think it helped because the layer of kaya was pretty thin
MAH ROTI PARTAAY HAT!!!
roti tissue with condensed milk ($9). it normally comes with a scoop of icecream but it is way waaaaay better with condensed milk and by better i mean sweeter heh we were all full so we had decided to split the desserts and so helen and i were eyeing off the last shards of flaky roti. a coupla weeks later on a revisit we happily order one each bwhahahaha
