I heart you Reuben sammich
Dear Reuben sammich,
It’s been 2 hours since I ate you and I miss you already. Why are you so delicious? Just watching the Wagyu salt beef just fall apart as the dude behind the counter picked it up to make the sandwich for the customer in front of me I knew instantly we were meant to be together.
Dear Reuben Sandwich,
It’s been 2 hours since I ate you and I miss you already. Why are you so delicious? It was love at first sight you know. A chance encounter as I vetoed the tacos, the pizzas and all other tasty offerings at the Sydney Westfield ‘food court’ and was heading towards the magical land of Charlie & Co truffle fries before I saw a big hunk o meat on a chopping board at Eat, Deli Kitchen (Shop 511, Level 5 Westfield, Cnr Pitt St Mall & Market St).
I’d had no cravings for a meat based meal but just watching the Wagyu salt beef just fall apart as the dude behind the counter picked it up to make the sandwich for the customer in front of me I knew instantly we were meant to be together. Immediately I was seized with such an appetite, indeed such lust as I stared mesmerized as slabs of glistening meat were lovingly placed onto thick slices of rye bread with innards so soft and squidgy. A single slice of Swiss cheese was perfect with the swirl of mustard and not overpowering in flavour and a layer of sauerkraut provided a welcome crunch as the nubbins of pickle was donated to the boy who watched in amusement at my delight with this incredible sandwich.
But it was not JUST a mere sandwich! It is the sammich of my mother freaking hungry dreams yo! I had a look at the website and I’m not sure how much I paid- was it a Regular ($11.75), a Large ($14.50) or a Plate ($16.50) who knows? I handed over my cash and walked dream-like to our table clutching the precious tray. From the first bite I knew that you were something special but all too soon you were taken away from me and I was left staring at my plate of crumbs, deliriously happy at such deliciousness but with an oddly abject feeling of loss. Oh Reuben sammich I will be back and we will be together again. Meanwhile you will always hold a special place in my dreams and of course my stomach ‘till we meet again. And Michael Moore you’ve single-handedly caused me to dream about flying to nyc and visiting katz’s deli and eating pastranami sandwiches alllll day.
Love, Chocolatesuze
Edit. PS yes miss bowb, the parmesan truffle fries were indeed delicious
Heh yes I am a dork. Have an awesome weekend guys! And remember if you want to win tix to Taste of Sydney go forth and enter here
Malaysia Kitchen Food Market, Sydney
Malaysia Kitchen Food Market, Sydney featuring Malaysian restaurants Sambal, Mamak, Chinta Ria and Jackie M showcasing the best Malaysian food in Sydney.
So the latest word on the street is the pop up of Australia’s first ever Malaysia Kitchen Food Market!
For the next 3 days, a random dodgy looking CBD laneway opposite the QVB (next to Lowes and 7-11, behind State Theatre) gets transformed into an alley featuring brightly lit lanterns, drool inducing photos of Malaysian food plastered to the walls and makeshift stalls of restaurants Sambal, Mamak, Chinta Ria and Jackie M showcasing the best Malaysian food in Sydney. edit: so apparently Sambal was only at the launch and will not be cooking the next coupla nights, but Jimmy’s Laksa will be there cooking up a storm! Just be warned about the crazy queues and come early!
OH HAI ADAM AND ALVIN! Teehee I must admit a case of the shyness overcame me and could barely speak to them even though I stalk their blogs here and here

So shiny! Entry to the event is $10 and includes 4 courses of tasting plates.

l-r: Kueh Pie Tee, Sambal; Otak Otak, Jackie M; Pisces Toast, Chinta Ria; Chicken Satay, Mamak
Canapes soon started floating around the packed area, and Chinta Ria’s Pisces Toast had me eyeballing the waiters and stalking them for slices of this golden and crunchy fabulousness. Seriously you know how sometimes you go to an event and there’s just something that sticks in your mind as just so freaking tasty that you can’t function properly? Yeah. Totes tasty.
l-r: Lobak, Chinta Ria; Ayam Goreng, Mamak; Acar Awak, Sambal; Chai Tow Kway, Jackie M
We make our way to our seats on the long communal table where magically plates and plates of food arrive and soon we are hard pressed to find room! I particularly loved Jackie M’s Chai Tow Kway aka the carrot cake that does not have any carrot heh
l-r: Nasi Lemak, Jackie M; Roti Canai w Kari Kambing, Mamak; Seafood Joget, Chinta Ria; Nasi Kunyit w Nyonya Chicken, Sambal
See those yellow rice balls? They were freaking awesome! Like balls of gold yo! I heart glutinous rice and the flavour was out of this world combined with the chicken! Savoury with a hint of spice but oh so very moreish ohhhh yeahhh and how pretty is that Nasi Lemak? Felt like such a shame to ruin such beautiful presentation but ah how I love ikan billies!

It’s a warming feeling seeing everyone enjoying a cuisine not so widely known and while talking to complete strangers is intimidating at first, it was great to chat about what brings people together- delicious food. Hear that food? You bring people together yo!

All too soon desserts are prepared and lined up ready for our already stuffed stomachs. Unfortunately the Malaysia Kitchen Food Market will not be offering desserts on the night. OH HAI MUM! Work that bandana!

l-r: Sago w Gula Melaka, Sambal; Cendol, Chinta Ria; Bubur Cha Cha, Jackie M

And of course freshly made sweet Roti Tissue from Mamak!

My pleas for a super giant roti fell on deaf ears ahaha so hurry guys and get thee to the Malaysia Kitchen Food Market which opens at the State Theatre Laneway from 6pm tonight. Also check out their Facebook page for your chance to win a trip for 2 to KL!
Chocolatesuze attended the Malaysia Kitchen Australia VIP launch event as a guest of Ogilvy 360.
Happy Valentines Day!
Happy Valentines day! Dear Suze, On a day when flowers get to travel around the country by FedEx, I was going to have something different delivered to your office…a pizza!
Dear Suze,
On a day when flowers get to travel around the country by FedEx, I was going to have something different delivered to your office…a pizza!. If you think about it, a pizza is like flowers…smells great, looks great, tastes great…and as an added bonus, you don’t need to find a vase – it fits perfectly in your stomach…
But I saw a strange evil eye when I mentioned it to you in passing…so I’ve hijacked your blog post for the day instead. If it’s any consolation, it woulda been a cheese pizza with extra cheese, pineapples and BBQ sauce : )
Happy Valentines Day love!
Love, Noods

Super Easy Ice Cream Recipe and best of all there’s only 4 ingredients and no eggs heh ready?
Ingredients:
600ml of thickened cream
150ml of condensed milk (half tin)
375g white chocolate (depended on what you’re coating you might need more)
5 giant spoons of Nutella (taste test as you go in case you want more/less Nutella flavour)
First nuke your white chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. Or you can melt in a double boiler but for some reason I find white chocolate always dies on me whenever I melt on stove and microwave is just so much easier
Coat your silicone mold with the white chocolate and leave in fridge to harden before applying 2nd coat. Make sure to coat the edges and base with enough chocolate or it’ll be damn hard to remove later on and the case will be super fragile. Do a 3rd coat if you’re not pressed for time and have enough chocolate left over.
Once the chocolate coat has hardened, slowly peel back the mold and pop out the cup. See how mine looks kinda fragile? That’s cos I was lazy and didn’t coat the edges enough bah!
Whip the cream until volume doubles and soft peaks form
Add the condensed milk and beat until mixture combined
Add spoonfuls of Nutella until it tastes like Nutella deliciousness
Fill hearts with the Nutella mixture and chill in fridge for approx 6hours.

And tadah! Sweetness on a plate! I thought the innards could do with a bit of pink edible glitter dust (heh disco dust!) and yeah I couldn’t help myself and bought the cute kids tea set from Ikea lol

Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner
So you know how Saturday was the hottest day in Feb in Sydney since 1926? Well that was the day of our Chinese New Year Reunion party with our rellies and Malaysian ex pats… ahahaha we were MELTING yo! No even the air con running at full blast made a dent in the crazy heat but at least it was a dinner party so it had kinda cooled down. Kinda. Lol and as always we start with the Yee Sang!
HAI GUYS! So you know how Saturday was the hottest day in Feb in Sydney since 1926? Well that was the day of our Chinese New Year Reunion party with our rellies and Malaysian ex pats… ahahaha we were MELTING yo! Not even the air con running at full blast made a dent in the crazy heat but at least it was a dinner party so it had kinda cooled down. Kinda. Lol and as always we start with the Yee Sang! Toss toss toss!
Pretty piles of veg before the yee sang got destroyed mixed together.
Satay grilled fresh oh baby! So damn hot but cannot resist the skewers of tender chicken with charcoally edges dunked in peanut sauce and stabbing rice cubes and cucumber in between each bite.
Table o plenty. Yeah ignore our ghetto fan haha but it was doing an awesome job of keeping the flies away! Cbf taking individ photos of each dish so we had: satay with rice cubes, prawnies, 3 types of noodles, 2 types of curries, roast duck and my pulled pork wrapped san choy bow lettuce style
And to cap off the night, ice kacang with ice shaved from the old skool ice shaver. I um didn’t take a pic of my ice kacang because I am boring and have issues with grass jelly and red bean so all I had in my bowl was corn and a mountain of ice drenched in gula melaka and evaporated milk heh
Oooh colourful jelly!
Aaaand random pic of shoes lol hope you guys didn’t melt too much over the weekend! Here’s to a cooler week ahead!
