Even though I’ve booked a trip to Korea next year I have been diligently trying the different korean restaurants in Sydney and Beom Beom in Darling Square is always a delicious time.
The truffle potato pancake is a crispy delight, the shreds of potato are golden and I loved the gentre of molten mozzarella cheese which made for the perfect drinking snack.
Surprisingly the cheese fire buldak chicken with tteokbokki, mozzarella isn’t super hot and could probably use more chilli.
The Beom Beem galbi is a massive portion, the meat is fatty, juicy, slightly smoky and just so tender. This is a must order!
Presentation wise the Shin rapeon fried rice with egg, bacon and American cheese is cute and while tasty it was odd to eat because the noodles were crumbled into the rice and again wasn’t very spicy like a normal shin rapoyeon.
The Wagyu jjapaguri is much more my jam, the noodles were perfectly bouncy and coated in a rich black bean sauce and the knob of butter just amps up the flavour
For desserts, the banana milk ice cream with mango and lime granita and burnt pineapple tastes just like the drink and is beautifully refreshing.

Rocco’s Original Meatball Sub is a must order, under a cloud of Parmigianno regiano are the pork and veal meatballs which are oh so juicy and housed crusty bread.
The Bistecca Frollata was a Cape Grim club steak that was beautifully charred and a perfect medium rare. We especially loved the beef fat roasted radishes.
And finally dessert, the soft serve of the day tasted like Christmas, perfectly balanced and not too sweet and full of fragrant spices.

Australia’s first ramen ticket machine is in Sydney at Ramen Auru in Crows Nest. While I loved reminiscing about Japan and pushing the buttons for what I wanted from the machine, you still need to speak to a human and give them your cash after you make your selection.
There’s a few counter seats available but we removed our shoes and made our way to sit at the tatami mats.
The menu is short and sweet with only 3 ramens and a bunch of side dishes, we ordered the tonkotsu ramen which was thick and rich with visible back fat nubbins floating around. The slices of chashu are lightly charred and fatty and the noodles have a good bite.
The prawn bisque ramen is right up my alley. There’s giant juicy prawns, bamboo shoots, and an egg and the broth is intensely fragrant and prawny, I could literally just drink this and be happy with my life.

I’m a little bored of Sydney restaurants at the moment, everything is just the same cookie cutter clone which is why I’m really enjoying visiting old school rsl club type of restaurants like Casa do Benfica serving Portuguese food and is located inside the Marrickville Hardcourt Tennis Club.
We start with vongole in a beautifully light lemon and mustard sauce, the clams are small but deliciously sweet.
We loved the grilled octopus which was perfectly tender with charred edges and then the garlic mushrooms which are incredibly fragrant and we absolutely had to mop up every last bit of the sauce with the free bread provided.
The beef skewer is impressively presented and is a perfect medium rare. It comes with a side salad and we chose the fried to order round-cut chips.
And finally the seafood rice which was super saucy and packed full of prawns, squid, mussels and swimmer crab.
For desserts we get the jiggly flan which is fine but we all loved the rustic looking chocolate mousse which tastes like our childhood.

The Wild Rover was one of the first hidden bars in Sydney and they’ve recently dropped the ‘wild’ but The Rover is still rocking the fun vibes and now have an extended food menu.
The eel pate with horseradish jelly is deliciously smooth and the glazed crumpets are light and fluffy.
The soul comforting Rovers fishermans pie is filled with smoked salmon and topped with a potato gratin and crispy capers.
And finally the Gidley burger! This is one of the best burgers I’ve had in a while, the double beef patties are thick and juicy with melty cheddar cheese and house pickles on the side.
