Firepop have finally opened a bricks and mortar location in Enmore and we scored seats at the bar so we could watch everything be grilled, first up are the small but incredibly rich lamb bone marrow, then the super sweet corn ribs with Caciocavallo cheese, followed by the amazing Fullblood Marble Score 9+ Wagyu beef cube with sea salt and garlic crisps.

A must order is the lamb skewers with sesame and a light dusting of cumin and you’ve got to order the pork belly with fermented chilli, garlic

I love playing Padron roulette and luckily didn’t land the spicy pepper.

And finally the star of the show is the incredible grass fed Scotch fillet with grilled chives. This was perfectly cooked, it was so juicy and tender with a great char. I mean just look at this, oh and the jus was just fantastic.

For dessert they were sadly out of the corn but the pretty as a picture pannacotta was smooth and had the perfect level of sweetness.

If you’re after German food and beer on tap then you’ve got to visit Concordia Club in Marrickville, just across the road from Tempe station.

Order your food and while you wait grab a beer and a pretzel and peruse the table out front filled with German deli items, mustards and chocolate.

Deep fried Camembert arrives first with molten cheesy insides, then the Jaeger schnitzel with the most delicious mushroom sauce.

The Sausage Duo comes with a bratwurst and a kransky, mash, sauerkraut and gravy. The sausages are awesome, perfect snappy bite and are super flavourful and juicy.

We also order the soul comforting Käsespätzle, a traditional German pasta dish loaded with cheese and fried onion.

And finally the star of the show is this giant pork knuckle, slow roasted with earth shattering crackle and incredibly tender meat.

For desserts head back to the front and gaze into the pastry cabinet. We ordered the apple strudel with flaky pastry and also a slice of the Ferrero Rocher cake and of course can’t go wrong with some schnapps

Over the weekend I flew to Tasmania and one of the most memorable spots to visit in Bruny Island was the Bruny Baker fridge in quite literally the middle of nowhere.

The honesty-system fridge is filled once a day with bread and biscuits and is an incredibly novel travel experience.

We had arrived just before 12 and the loaves of sourdough bread were still warm but unfortunately we knew we wouldn’t have time to eat it so for afternoon tea we’ve picked up some chocolate covered Anzac biscuits which were nice and crisp on the edges and with a satisfying chew in the middle.

If you love a beverage and hate waiting for the bartender to serve you then you’ve got to visit Buddy’s, a self serve bar in Newtown.

To start, grab a Buddy’s reloadable card and add some money onto it and then grab a glass and make your selection at the wall. There’s staff floating around if you have any questions and if you’re not a beer drinkers there’s wine and cocktails on tap, and also a separate area for non alcoholic sodas and even kombucha.
