You know when you eat at a Korean restaurant and you only get 1 or 2 free banchan side dishes? Well Myeongdong in North Strathfield is legendary for providing the most amount of free banchan in Sydney.
After you place your order a whole flurry of banchan dishes are quickly placed on our table, covering ¾ of the surface area. Oh and did I mention that they’ll happily refill any of the banchan?
But back to the actual dishes, we ordered the bossam which is fatty pork shoulder that’s thinly sliced and you wrap in a leaf and add pickles and kimchi. We also ordered kimchi pancake, bibimbap in a hot stone pot and spicy pork bone soup.
The teokbokki with stretchy cheese was a massive serve and was a hit with the fam, I mean look at this cheese! We also had the spicy soft tofu stew with seafood, japchae potato noodles and of course my fave fried chicken with snow cheese. This is Myeondong in North Strathfield.

If you’re after mud crabs in Sydney then head to Nanyang Tea Club located on the top level of Market City. Be sure to call ahead a few days prior to preorder and put a deposit down. We were in luck with some female mud crabs available and we ordered one in Singapore Chilli crab sauce. The claws were massive and so meaty, it also came with deep fried mantou buns with fluffy centre that are perfect for dipping in the sauce.
Our second crab was salted egg yolk sauce which is my fave! On another visit we ordered more crabs this time in a black pepper sauce and another with ginger and shallot and crispy noodles. For non crab eaters I would highly recommend the fish curry which is incredibly fragrant, the hainanese chicken rice balls and salt and pepper calamari.

A good authentic NYC style bagel is hard to find in Sydney but Brooklyn Boy Bagels is hands down my favourite. Their bagels are hand-rolled, boiled then slowly proofed for 2 days before being baked to chewy perfection.
If you’re dining in, decide on your bagel, your cream cheese schmear and any extras. I ordered the jalapeno cheese with lox (which is salmon, onion and dill) but totally forgot to add on extra salmon but this was still great and perfect for a snack.
I also ordered the ‘everything’ bagel which is topped with poppy, sesame, onion, garlic and caraway seeds, chose the jalapeno schmear and added pastrami. The pastrami is awesome, juicy and tender and I appreciated the generous amount given.
I couldn’t resist the pastry cabinet and scored the very last maple bacon donut which was amazing, the perfect balance of sweet and salty.
Don’t forget to grab some bagels for future you’s lunches and grab a packet of smoked salmon and tubs of schmear, this is Brooklyn Boys Bagels in Marrickville

Tenacious Bakehouse is Sydney’s newest and most anticipated bakery that has just opened on Oxford St, Darlinghurst. I lined up bright and early on the weekend and got 1 of everything.
Yeongjin Park, previously from Picco Leo is famous for his take on the Portuguese tart and it is as delicious as always with super flaky layers, a smooth custardy centre and drizzled with miso caramel. I won’t start singing the corn song but this pastry with cornflakes and onion mayo tastes just like the sizzling corn and cheese dish you get at a korean restaurant, it is amazing.
I also got the Strawberry tart and an almond croissant. I loved the Injelomi Pandoro, it’s filled with cream and red bean paste and the pastry smothered in roasted soy bean powder. My favourite of the lot was the Black Garlic Crown, it’s the garlic bread of my dreams! Super garlicy and buttery, this is a must order. This is Tenacious Bakehouse in Darlinghurst
